Not "flakes" or wafers, more like short chopped hay. Cannot put in a hay net without loosing most on the ground. It's not in flakes like other compressed hays. I wanted to use it to travel with, but it messier than hauling hay bales. Do not recommend. And its extremely dry and "crunchy" almost.

I was hesitant to order this hay mainly because of the cost. However, my source for hay had run dry. So, I tried two bales. OMG! It was far superior than the local hay I had been getting. Much more greener, compacted, so this one bale equaled two of the stuff I was buying. So, cost wise it was the same, with much better hay! I just placed another order for three bales! The convenience ordering from Chewy, again, is GREAT! THANK YOU, CHEWY!!

Don't waste your money. I ordered a couple of bags and every single one was not suitable to feed horses. I hoped the "short cut hay" would be easy to feed my senior hoses who all have teeth problems due to age. The content of the bags was bad smelling, nearly pulverazed (shorter than a match)and mostly gray in color. It looked to me like someone had swept the floor after loading hay. My horses, who are usually chowhounds, refused to eat that stuff.
