How nice they are. It is amazing. So helpful! Just the very best!!

It was made for Cooper, so I no longer need to cut the pills. Which for me is difficult and he is getting the correct dosage.

Little Girl has a partial collapsed trachea so she was coughing non stop and this med has eliminated it. We thought she got better so we stopped it and sure enough the coughing returned. So we will never stop giving it to her. Actually she likes it and thinks we are giving her a treat.

Prior to ordering from chewy his meds were actual pills not capsules and we cut them in half and put in a dropper with water cause he doesn’t do pills and the consistency is dramatically different then the actual pills from the vet if leaves a large residue . And I feel he isn’t getting as much .

Best option to ensure my cat gets a consistent dose of his BP medication

Amlodipine is a very inexpensive medication to get from a local pharmacy but the smallest dose you can get commercially are 2.5 mg tablets. If you need a 0.625mg dose, you'll have to quarter the tablets. It is virtually impossible to quarter a tiny tablet perfectly and ensure your cat is getting a consistent dose. I monitor my cats blood pressure at home and it was obvious that my cat was getting too much medication on some days and too little medication on others. You simply cannot manage blood pressure safely like that. With these compounded tablets my cat's blood pressure has finally stabilized. The capsules are size 3 and I'm grateful to the Chewy pharmacists for confirming this before I purchased. Size 3 is definitely a cat friendly size. People forget that a cat can swallow a mouse whole! If you don't know how to pill your cat, work with your vet, vet tech or watch a lot of videos and consider conditioning your next cat from a young age. I've done this with my current cat when my last cat got sick. From a year old, I'd use a pinch off a pill pocket, roll it in a ball and get my cat used to being pilled. For a capsule, my vet recommended coating the pill in a little butter (what cat doesn't like butter?) or some olive oil so that it can go down smoothly. I'm a pro at it now, and while no cat "enjoys" being pilled, when you have built trust with your cat they can learn to accept it. It doesn't have to be a battle. You don't have to ruin their food with foul tasting medication. You don't have to worry about capsules that need to be given whole in order for them to make it to the intestines intact to be effective. These capsules are perfect and I'm so grateful Chewy offers them

I don't understand how compounding works, but these pills are so much larger (and with quite a bit more contents) then going through my vet's pharmacist for the same exact dosage. I don't understand this, yet both Chewy and my vet said this is fine. I much, much prefer the very tiny capsules (and far less contents) of my vet's pharmacy over these huge gargantuan capsules. Thankfully, as with the tiny capsules, I've been able to continue to open up the pill and mix the powder in some Gerber chicken and gravy baby food. My boy has been lapping it all up, much of the time, but sometimes there's a tiny bit of the baby food left, so I'm always concerned that he's getting all of the medication. I've learned to try to find a balance between giving him not too much and not too little. It's usually about half of a small heaping spoonful of the baby food put in a small glass bowl, and then I break open the capsule and dispense the contents over the baby food, and mix with a toothpick (so there's less surface area that the mixture adheres to). I wouldn't have went with Chewy if my vet's pharmacy wasn't so ridiculously expensive. It's horrible how much their pills cost, but it's also horrible how big THESE pills are. I guess it's a trade-off that I'm going to have to live with and try to work with, but I wish Chewy would reduce the size of these capsules to at least half of what they are.

Think twice about these capsules for a cat

If you are ordering for a cat, I do NOT recommend these BIG capsules. I previously received amlodipine from a vet in a very small hard pill that had to be split

If you are ordering for a cat, I do NOT recommend these BIG capsules. I previously received amlodipine from a vet in a very small hard pill that had to be split with a pill splitter into four doses, which was impossible without reducing the pill to powder. After that "too small to cut" pill experience, I ordered these capsules, expecting them to be quite small, but in fact they are much too large for my 9 lb. senior cat to swallow. Frankly it is hard for me to imagine administering these capsules to ANY cat safely and successfully. I ordered a 90 day supply of the capsules, which was a very expensive mistake for something I cannot use. I called Chewy, and they pointed out that they also sell amlodipine in liquid and transdermal forms, so (based on reviews), I will move on to the transdermal form, and keep my fingers crossed for a better experience. No offer of an exchange or refund was made by Chewy, so it is "buyer beware." I wish I had known about the size of the capsules, and about the other possibilities, in the first place. I wish that either my vet or the Chewy pharmacy had taken the time to discuss options for administering amlodipine when the prescription for this medicine was first made, instead of the blind trial and error experience I have had. I respectfullly suggest that Chewy discuss/show the actual size of the capsules on the page (see my photo for an easy reference to scale), and that they also discuss and link to all alternative formats for each medication, so that consumers will be better informed about options and alternatives before placing orders.

Good for high blood pressure

I find opening the capsule and distributing the powder among a few pill poppers works a lot better than trying to stuff a whole capsule or pill into a single pill

I find opening the capsule and distributing the powder among a few pill poppers works a lot better than trying to stuff a whole capsule or pill into a single pill popper, otherwise the cat will taste it and refuse to eat it without force. If I'd in Jared pill form I crush it first withe back of a spoon. My cat loves these. They're his favorite treat of the day, but he has no previous bad experience with pills to overcome. This compounded formula is much more affordable than another pharmacy I have used and just as effective.
