How much to I put in for 4 oz food I feed my one dog 1/2 cup 2x day he is 16 a d 11.2 pounds The other gets 1 cup am and 1/2 cup pm. She is 8 and 24 pounds I make 6 pounds turkey and then make veggies and carbs and then portion it out How much each day for each dog ?
Answer by RescueMomDec 05, 2021
Directions on back of package states one teaspoon for each pound of homemade dog food. So if you make 6lbs of turkey and add say 1lb of veggies that would be 7lbs of food, mix in 7 teaspoons. I make 10lbs of food every other day and mix in 10 teaspoons after it cools down. Hope that help some.

Do I also need to add multi vitamins in homemade dog food when using this supplement?
Answer by ChewyJul 29, 2017
All you need to do is add 1 teaspoon to each pound of home prepared food or as directed by your veterinarian.

How many mg of calcium is there per tsp of this supplement? thanks.
Answer by ChewyFeb 18, 2020
This Supplement contains 1000 mg Calcium per teaspoon.

Is this only for dogs who eat raw/ home cooked meals? I was told to add calcium to my nursing dogs diet. She is on a grain free kibble. Will this be okay to add to her food?
Answer by ChewyJun 04, 2018
This food is suitable for dog and cats that aren't on a raw diet as well. We recommend consulting a veterinary professional before giving supplements to your pet.

Very Satisfied

I have been using Animal Essentials Seaweed Calcium to make my dogs food for several years now and have always been satisfied with the product. They did change their packaging recently , and I have to say I like the old packaging so much better. I am very glad I kept the last canister and am able to transfer the calcium to the canister when the bag arrives because I do NOT like the bag it now comes in . This time I was shopping for items that I regularly buy for my dog , and that I usually buy online from another well known company. I had an offer from my American Express Credit card to use so I thought I would compare prices , and to my surprise, all of the 3 items I needed to purchase were priced exactly the same as where I usually shop , so I gave Chewy a try and was very satisfied. The order arrived the next day , & qualified for free shipping because the 3 items I was interested in met the minimum for that. That is the only drawback, you do need to purchase a minimum amount to get free shipping from Chewy.

I was told to get this supplement for my almost year old GSD puppy Tessa who is on a raw diet so I purchased two. The problem is that even in the smallest amount she refused to eat her food. If your dog is picky and smells everything I don't recommend trying this product. Disappointed but just one more attempt at a new supplement that failed miserably.

Third time repurchasing

I feed my golden a homemade raw diet formulated by a canine nutritionist and his recipe includes this supplement. This is my third time repurchasing (first time through Chewy). They did recently update the packaging from a plastic container to a resealable bag.

Good source of calcium

My vet wants me to add a little calcium to my dog's diet. He's eats a combination of raw and homecooked and the homecooked doesn't offer enough. Most recommend Bone Meal but I've read and see that bone meal often is contaminated with heavy metals, especially lead. I believe this to be a better and more absorbable source with little to no contamination.

Easy calcium supplement

I like the ease of adding the powdered additional calcium to my homemade dog food. I had used egg shells in the past and it was coarse and more expensive.

More then calcium

I home cook for my elder dog. I Trust and use many of this company's products. This calcium is complete with more then calcium. Safe and well sourced. You can call them and get your questions answered. Very knowledgeable.

Works for my cats IBD

My indoor cat has IBD. Diarrhea all of the time. I cannot put him to sleep, I wouldn’t unless he was suffering and he’s not, he is healthy otherwise. This is beneficial in several ways. It helps supplement minerals they normally don’t get and it also helps to slow or stop loose BMs. It’s essentially like if we chewed a bunch of “TUMS” (calcium carbonate), it dries it up, adds bulk. It has made a huge difference in his life (and ours). Dosage may be different for a cat than dog, rather than by the pound so speak with your vet first.

Great product!

I've been using this product for less than a month (bought my first jar elsewhere), but it seems to be agreeing with my dogs, one of which is extremely allergic to a ton of things. I make my own dog food because of those allergies. It was impossible to find a commercial dog food that didn't contain some of her allergens and most dog foods contain too many additives and unhealthy ingredients for my senior dogs. I can't feed raw meaty bones all the time and since she's allergic to eggs, I can't use ground eggshells to supplement calcium. I also didn't want to use synthetic vitamins and minerals. I had to come up with an alternative. My local pet health store recommended this product. I was thrilled to find that Chewy carries it for quite a bit less in price.
