With just four simple ingredients that have remained unchanged since it was first developed in 1899, Bag Balm is an incredibly versatile, long-lasting moisturizer that’s perfect for treating chafed, cracked, damaged skin on pets of all shapes and sizes. The alcohol-free, no-sting formula is made with Petrolatum to moisturize and Lanolin to soothe and soften; it’s also uniquely formulated to discourage pets from licking it. No one knows when the first farmer tried Bag Balm on the paws of the family dog, but it didn’t take long for word to get around about how well it worked. After the 9-11 tragedy in New York, Bag Balm was used to soothe the dry, cracked paw pads of the search dogs who relentlessly scoured the mountains of rubble at the site of the Twin Towers.

My Grandfather used this for his dairy cows when they had chaffing. I've used Bag Balm for decades for minor scrapes and bruises for myself, hot spots on our Shih tzu years ago, and my husband is recently using it for an abrasion he gets from his CPAP mask straps. It seems to provide an antiseptic barrier between the skin and what is causing chaffing as the redness improves right away and healing begins. It's a very good general ointment that soothes many issues.
I didn’t think about it when I ordered. But fair warning, it will melt in transit. My box was a greasy mess. I tried to scrape what I could back into the tin, but I lost over half of it. It smells ok, and seems to be decently lubricating. But yeah, will melt in these summer temps.
I have only used it once on my dog. He licked it off as soon as I put it on his paws. Because the dog is always walking around, I really haven't found the best time to put it on his pads! Still trying to figure that out!!
My dog has chapped, dry, paws, I use this on them every few days. I’m not sure if I have noticed a major difference, and he does try to lick it off immediately if I don’t keep him distracted.
Got this for my old boy’s paw pads, but the puppy and the old boy both LOVE to lick it off. Literally won’t stop licking after I put it on, so I use it for my hands instead. Works wonders!!!
This is not "for dogs" and the tube that was sent to me from Chewy does not show a dog on the graphics, nor does it mention nose, paw & hot spot treatment. I already had bag balm and thought this was something unique to keep dogs from licking it. Don't be dumb like me!
My vet recommended this for my English bulldog’s dry crusty nose and I’ve seen results amazingly fast. I have to really rub it in because he will immediately rub his nose on the furniture trying to get it off lol. But his nose has already gone back to looking moist and all black again, where before it was turning light grayish brown from dryness. Will purchase again!
Does the job but leaves paws with basically a Vaseline type residue that tracks poorly on wood, vinyl, or tiled floors and makes them slippery.
My pup (boxer/American bulldog) has been scratching her underbelly and chest area for weeks now. It’s scabbed and red and truthfully looked painful until my husband recommended I try this balm. It has healed up the red and helped keep her from itching, I just wish there was something I could wrap around her chest and belly to make sure it didn’t rub off on my floors. It works wonders for her ears too!
My 10 yr old Lab has the righ oatches of skin that has shown up on his front leg “elbows”, and they were literally so dry and cracked they would bleed. I tried multiple products, but this one has worked the best. It lasts and seems to repel water. i’ve also gone to using it on my Boxer’s foot pads that sit high on her front feet which can really become dry and itchy for her. I would recommend over other products out there. This seems to be the one!
