FAQ

What Are Bully Sticks

One of the most frequent questions we're asked is, "What are bully sticks made from?" Bully Sticks are 100% Beef Sticks Dog Treats and dog chews that are made from the pizzle or penis of the bull. Pizzles historically have been used for different purposes from walking canes to medicinal powders. We source our bully sticks or Beef Stick Dog Treats from South America and the USA because of their quality cooking methods and safety.

How Are Bully Sticks Made?

Bully Sticks in general are made differently depending on the vendor. Our bully sticks are cleaned and sorted in a refrigerated facility to ensure safety. The bully sticks are then hung vertically from racks and cooked in an oven to ensure that they are bacteria free and safe for dog’s consumption. Hanging the bully sticks vertically removes most of the moisture from the product. The longer that they are dried, the less odor they have.We offer both odor free bully sticks and regular bully sticks. The only difference: odor free bully sticks are dried longer and have less moisture in them. After drying, we sort and cut our bully sticks according to our sizing chart. Our high quality products are consistently measured by hand for thickness. The thicker the final product, the longer it will typically take for a dog to consume.

How Should I Store Bully Sticks?

Our bully sticks are packed and shipped in zip top bags to be re - used time and again. This is a convenient way to store your purchase and preserve the product for a long period of time. Many customers like to store their bully sticks in a freezer to increase the bully sticks’ shelf life and hardness. If your dog does not finish a bully stick in 1 sitting, simply stick the uneaten portion in the freezer, and it will become hard again for a tasty treat another day. You should not store your bully sticks in the open or outside to prevent insects from attempting to reach them.

How Long Do Bully Sticks Last?

Bully Sticks can last for up to 2 years or more from when they are produced and are known to be a very hardy product. Our bully stick stock rotates extremely quickly, and we ensure that every stick we ship will have at least a 1.5 year remaining shelf life upon receipt. As far as chew time for your pups, this really depends on your breed and their level of aggressiveness (or enthusiasm, as we like to say) when chewing the product. We have found that many of our bully sticks, given to the appropriate sized dog, will last from several hours to several days.

Is It Okay For My Dog To Swallow Small Ends of Bully Sticks?

This is a question that we receive all of the time, and there are really 2 ways to approach this. Our bully sticks are single - ingredient protein items, so they are fully digestible and can be consumed in larger pieces.Even though they can be digested, it is important for owners to supervise their pets and treat each pet differently. Some dogs, especially guarded eaters or abused pups, will tend to swallow their food and treats without proper chewing. This can present a choking hazard if too large of a bully stick is swallowed. Remember to use caution with any new dog chew and spend time understanding your dog’s behavior and reaction to them. The best solution to this problem is to attach a vise grip to the end of the bully stick (the last inch of any stick will do). This way, when your pup is done chewing, the remaining inch of product cannot be swallowed.

What Ingredients Are In A Bully Stick?

Our bully sticks are single - ingredient items made from 100% natural free - range cattle pizzle.

great chew, thin but don’t crack

    By on

My Alaskan Malamute loves these. They are thinner than expected but still take her about 10 minutes to get through. They don’t just crack or chip like it may seem they might she does have to work them down. Goes crazy when I open the bag and the best part is they don’t upset her sensitive stomach. They are pretty big so I was nervous giving her the first one but she digested it well, no problems!

    Dogs are crazy about these!

    By on

The bag I got was full of LARGE, light tan ears. No hair or anything else creepy. I have to laugh at their appearance. I also like that they are big enough so they don't get lost like the chew sticks do. My dogs get very excited when they see them. I gave them a choice of these or premium bully sticks, they picked the ears. Took off one star because there is an uneven number in the bag and I have two dogs, so pending battle over last ear...

    Disappointed!!

    By on

I was ordering these regularly for my babies, however in the last few months I have not liked the looks of them. The ears are not totally cleaned of cow hair. Also they are darker looking and I believe the taste must have changed because the babies are not eating them completely up like they use too. I don't know where Bully are resourcing these from but they are not as good as they use to be. Also makes me think there was something going on because for about a month and a half they were unavailable. Guess it's time to find a better product

    Not as pictured

    By on

Expected "chewier," white cow ears as in the photo, but the bag is full of brown, dried/smoked crunchy-seeming ears instead. My dog is crunching through one, so at least she likes it, but I hope it lasts as long as the white kind.

Makes the housewolves feel like they're in the wild

    By on

These ears are as natural as you get and often have little cow hairs on them. My dogs prefer these even over the thick cut white ones. They are more disgusting for me to look at (personally) but the hairier the better. They loves these things. They are thin, but they really enjoy them. It's a different type of stimulation too. Wish they were like, $2 cheaper though.

    Great Ears

Nice large ears not tiny ones that you get from other places. No odor. Perfect for all dogs.

    Highly Recommend

    By on

I have been buying these for several months now and my dogs LOVE them. Every package is a bit different, some do have some tiny hairs on them, some have an odor, but regardless, my dogs love every single one, they keep them busy and that is all that matters. Most of the ears are HUGE and could be cut into 2 treats. I have 3 large dogs & I go through 1 bag a week.

    OK but not the best

    By on

Disappointed that jumbo ears were not available. Jumbo ears (10 per bag) are far better than these (15 per bag) for large dogs. These are probably good for small dogs.

My dog loved them. They are very natural ears and still have some hairs on them.
