Feed the birds all year round. As in winter, springtime feeding can be just as difficult for wild birds to find an adequate supply of food. Use a wide variety of seeds in various types of feeders to attract even more birds. Clean the feeders regularly and always provide an accessible source of water.
I feed cracked corn to the birds and critters in my yard (in addition to seeds), and this is the best quality brand I've tried. The cracked kernels are uniform in size, no clumps, powder or twigs in the mix (unlike Audubon Park), and the product looks and smells very fresh. The birds and critters love it and eat it up. My only complaint is that the plastic package is not recyclable (Audubon Park's is). I know only something like 25% of the plastic we think we're recycling actually gets recycled, but that's still better than nothing. (Of course what would be even better is if manufacturers would go back to using "old-fashioned" bags made of layers of (recycled) waxed paper.) So I'm giving the product only 4 stars because of the environmentally irresponsible packaging, but the contents of the bag are a 5 for sure.
Great price and great product. The birds and squirrels love it.
I am very happy with Chewy, their customer service and products. Great prices too !
I did buy a wild animal/bird feed mix as well as the bag of cracked corn. I hadn't tried either so I only bought one bag of each. I was hoping to put out something that would appeal to grackles and starlings since I do live in an area where corn is an apparent favorite of theirs to the extent that they will actually leave the suburbs for the farms once harvest sets in. Meanwhile they come in the spring and take over the feeders, chasing away every bird except the Bluejays who don't take no truck over that riffraff! Our feeder pole has a baffle and is located where the squirrels and chipmunks can't get to the feeders, so they were not a problem. I offered the corn along with the other feed in separate piles on a ground feeder. While the mixed blend (that contained sunflower seeds and peanuts) was definitely the favorite of the two, the corn was a big hit as well. Only the starlings and grackles never got any of either because the chipmunks emptied that feeder in a matter of minutes. They were faster than the squirrels! They didn't eat a lot--just stuffed it in their cheek pouches and carried it all away to their hidey holes. I went through half the food before I gave up and hung the feeder up with the rest of the bird feeders. The grackles in particular really liked the new offering, and so did the mourning doves (that are actual favorites of mine), and a few Bluejays. It was clear that the mixed feed was more popular, but the corn was readily eaten, and filling the other feeders with seeds that black birds don't like (safflower and a finch blend consisting of nyger and lots of little seeds), seem to achieve my goal of letting the other birds eat in peace. The chipmunks and squirrels are happy with the fallout. I think this would be a good way to extend some of the more expensive feed. The birds here will eat corn, but NO ONE likes milo which is present in cheaper bird feed. At any rate, the corn is a definite treat for the bother birds.
Great product. Everything I buy for my dogs and birds, I am very satisfied. Also great customer service.
We feed some local ducks, more a supplemental as they still forage. But we mix this with the Browns Duck and Goose blend as a way to stretch the food and they dive right in for it.
I mix this with wild bird seed. The bluejays love it!
OMG. i put this out on my feeder and law.... all the daily birds came and left... no one touched the stuff... why ????????????????????????
I bought this and mixed it with the bird seed I got thank you very much
Love not having to go into stores ,but Chewy should stick to pet food. The corn was so fine , it was sand. EXPENSIVE TOO. Second wild bird products, i TRIED, not happy with either
