The screws necessary to connect the two parts of the pet door ARE NOT PROVIDED. Good luck trying to figure this out at your local hardware store.
Cats need to be directly pushing on the door for it to work and sometimes it still doesn't open so they have to continue pushing... It's definitely a learning process considering my cats have been using a regular just push open for for years. It does work for it's intended purpose of keeping certain cats in the house and that's all that really matters. Really small tho it would be nice if it sold in a larger size. If you have a fat cat don't buy this door otherwise it's ok.
Bought this same model 10 years ago and was surprised to see it was still available. Good because I had extra collar fobs that work with this current unit and the door fit my original installation. Had some problems with the previous unit lately and wanted to update with a newer model. Like that the program button was moved to the top of the unit for easier programming changes. Hope this one will last another 10 years.. the original still works and am keeping it as back up .
I got this because my older cat kept eating my kittens food. I easily mounted it onto a clear storage container, and It was easy to program. My only complaints are the door is very loud. And the ID tag it came with is bulky. It only took about a week to train the cat to get in and out. The door is overall well built and is working well.
Not going to work for my middle aged cats. I could see training younger or bolder cats with this door though.
I placed this where an exisiting cat door was in the overhead garage door. A stray figured out the 2 pet doors and let himself in between 10pm and 2am daily and yelled at me for food. This door was necessary. I feel bad my cats have to wear the large tags, but they are using the door. I had it in unlock mode for a couple of days until I had time to walk them through it once with treats. The unlocking sound startled them at first. And going in and out of the house to show each of them to learn how to go in and out was, well...it was like herding cats. If they want in or out bad enough, they would catch on and I just hoped for the best. I do worry the breakaway collars will come off and they will get stranded outside, but its not as worrisom as a stray bringing in fleas. If it could be operated via phone app, that would be amazing!
4 stars because it is a little delayed when it reads our cat's RFID tag, but overall very easy to set up/program. I also wish that it came in brown to match our door, but oh well. The timer function to keep her in at night has been really useful as well. I also like that locking mechanism is INSIDE the cat door. The last door we used had a dial lock that our cat broke through within 6 months. Hopefully this one lasts a lot longer!
I got this for my cat so she would be the only kitty allowed in our bedroom. Well it only unlocks once my kitty is in the hole and pushes it with her head and most the time it unlocks to late and she’s done pushing it. There is no way to make it more sensitive. I wanted it to unlock before she has to push it.
Bought in December. Broke by April. Great. It's complicated to use. Doesn't use modern technology. Something modern would allow you to program through an app. Absolutely cannot recommend.
This is the second Catmate door we have purchased like this. We love it, so do our cats!
