I got this for my dachshund who is allergic to chicken, we think. Our rescue rat terrier mix had his own puppy food. He had started to try to sneak some of his sister’s Country Vet Naturals so we decided to switch him over. He’s 11 months old so I think he will be okay off his puppy food. They love it! The pieces are small and round which is a preference of my rat terrier mix and nice and small for my dachshund. Bathroom habits of both are perfect. No issues with that. We just got more for them. I’d love a medium sized bag. The large is too large but small is too small so I buy two at a time now.
The food was expired. When I contacted Chewy, they insisted that I did not have an account with them. After providing proof of my account, as well as pictures of the dates on the bag, I was continuously told that I did not have an account. This was my first and LAST time doing business with Chewy. Never again! Also, kind of strange that they claim my email was not an active account yet I continue to get emails from them asking me to reorder. Food might have been good for my girls, but they didn't get a chance to try it. Went into the trash. Do better, Chewy. Do better.
This food was really great for my dogs that have a serious chicken allergy. Unfortunately, the last bag arrived and my dog started throwing up and itching a lot. We ordered a bag of hydrolized protein food that we still had a prescription for and went to the vet. When showing our vet their food and looking at the online reviews, we noticed a lot of reviews saying they had received expired bags and their dogs were getting sick. We checked out bag and sure enough, it was 2 months expired. Chewy refunded me but still dealing with the vet bills and trying to figure out what to transition them to. May need to order another bag and hope it arrives not expired. It was great food when it wasn’t expired. I’ll be extra vigilant in checking moving forward.
We feed this to both of our dogs. The little one is basically a garbage disposal: she'll eat anything and nothing seems to bother her stomach. The bigger dog is a fussy GSD mix with a chicken sensitivity. He's also currently battling a rare form of cancer. He eats this pretty happily dressed up with some canned food and rice, I only wish it were a little more calorie dense. But I'm not going to complain, it's a chicken free food with grains that doesn't cost an arm and a leg- a winner in our house!
My GSD as a problem with processed chicken and corn. I slowly transitioned her over a week to this food and things have been fine. No loose stools but she is blowing coat as they all do this time of year. So we'll see after her coat tightens back up how that looks.
This is a great food my standard poodle and golden doodles love it. I have read a couple of reviews do not be confused by the date on the bag it is not an expiration date. It is a born on date. The food is good for 1 year from that date.
I was feeding my two dogs with this food for a good while (maybe a full year) when last month they both had bouts of vomiting and diarrhea. At first I thought they had gotten into something outdoors, and began their limited diet feeding until they got better. Once returning to their kibble they had bouts of vomiting and diarrhea again so I threw the food away figuring it was a bad batch. Fed them both limited diet again until symptoms went away. I ordered another bag of the beef and bacon flavor despite the previous one being not good. Promptly after feeding them from the new bag they wound up with vomiting and diarrhea again. It was then I switched their food permanently. So 2 bags of beef and bacon were a waste. It’s odd they’d go from being fine with the food to being sickened by it after so long.
I felt so bad for my doggies, both of them had major diarrhea on this food. I could understand if one of my dog’s system couldn’t tolerate it, but both of them kind of makes me wonder if I might have a bad batch or something.
so far so good - both dogs are happily eating this product. We rotational feed so don't stick with the same brand all the time and it's nice to find something different once in a while. We have a Pom and a Pyr and there have been no issues with this food (no transitioning done here, they're used to different foods regularly - it works for us, not for everybody)
We have been looking for a dry dog food that is healthy and delicious. We couldn't afford our previous limited ingredients food and learned the dangers of grain-free. We chose beef and bacon since we avoid chicken. We were really happy with the ingredients list and nutrition reviews by experts. Plus our pick eater is really happy with it!
