My pug was recently diagnosed with crystals in urine. The vet put her on a UTI prescription dog food, but it has chicken and she’s allergic. Is this food low protein? I found the magnesium levels and they are ok. Need protein low protein that doesn’t contain chicken or chicken byproducts.

I work in the veterinary field and I would recommend a hydrolyzed diet to avoid the allergen. Both Hills z/d and Hills Derm complete are hydrolyzed (meaning the protein is broken down to the point the body cannot recognize it and therefore won't react) and depending on what kind of crystals your dogs has it will promote a urinary environment that reduces the risk of developing struvite & calcium oxalate crystals. I find that the Derm complete diet has been more palatable than the z/d diet. Be sure to speak with your vet before making any changes though! Have them review the food and give their opinion :)

This recipe is made for overweight or less active dogs. Depending on what your dog is allergic to it can also help with sensitive skin.

How many cups are there per bag?

There will be approximately 4 cups per pound of kibble. The 15 pound bag will have close to 60 cups and the 30 pound bag close to 120 cups.

Best food for my dogs

Having 2 larger dogs means I am usually spending a lot of money on dog food, and spending it pretty frequently. my 2 dogs are also on the heavier side. I have them

Having 2 larger dogs means I am usually spending a lot of money on dog food, and spending it pretty frequently. my 2 dogs are also on the heavier side. I have them on the large breed formula from Diamond before, but switched here per my vets recommendation for them to lose weight, and this food is great for my dogs! I wish it had a bit more too it to help with things like skin and coat, but I supplement that when I need to.

My dogs were both overweight and my pit bull has a lot of food allergies. I switched them to this food and they LOVE it. I was actually surprised to see how much more they liked it over their previous food (also Diamond). We just left the vet clinic and my dogs have lost a lot of weight. One lost 20 pounds and the other 25 pounds! I'm so happy with this food.

Helps in colder months

Since Idaho is switching to cooler weather and we slow down activity- I switched from this from there normal formula in the diamond line and they still loved it

I’ll see in a couple more bags if it keeps them looking great and in shape!! But it’s diamond so I’m sure we’ll be fine! There stools are wonderful and firm! Going 2-3 daily but easy to pick up

Must have gotten a bad batch?

My dog has been eating Diamond Naturals Light for at least a couple of years, but she wouldn't go near her first serving from the most recent bag. I offered it again,

My dog has been eating Diamond Naturals Light for at least a couple of years, but she wouldn't go near her first serving from the most recent bag. I offered it again, adding some yoghurt and a couple of treats, and she ate it. But, later, she seemed lethargic and threw up. She is a hearty and enthusiastic eater, and has never refused this food. Thought she might have gotten into something I didn't notice when we were out walking, but I tried the food again a day or so later--and the same results. Offered her on a different brand, and she ate it happily and was perfectly fine. So, unfortunately, I've had to throw away an entire large bag of food. Assuming it's a bad batch of some kind? I was very surprised since she has done so well on this food for so long.
