Do you have to soak this in water like the directions say?

This substrate should be soaked for about 30 minutes until it completely absorbs the water. This will help get rid of clumps.

Does it mold easily?

The soil itself wouldn't get moldy, however if any type of food is left behind, due to the humidity it'll get moldy within a day.

Works perfectly for my bioactives

A lot of my reptiles are in large bioactive enclosures, with live plants and clean up bugs, and this makes for a wonderful soil layer!

My ball python is a fan

This is my ball python's favorite substrate for burrowing. It stays damp but not too damp and is perfect for the warm side of his enclosure. It also doesn't stick

Tried for rat dig box

On my search for the perfect medium to put in the ratty boys dig box I tried this. It was the right consistency however I did run into some issues with it. The bag smelled slightly mildewy when I opened it. It should not smell mildewy at all. I set it out to air in the sun, not familiar with the product, hoping it just needed to air out. It never lost the smell, so I didn't put it in for them. I did notice as well, when it was dry it became powdery. So, in conclusion, if you want to try this in your ratty dig box, just use caution. If it smells mildewy don't use it. If it is kept damp they love it, but if it gets dry it gets powdery and I would be concerned about respiratory issues.

Very dry with larger fibers.

This is almost like Eco Earth, except for being very dry and more coarsely ground. I mixed it with Eco earth to make a dry top layer for a tarantula. You can see

Cool substrate

I honestly like the product, and I used it as a top soil for planting dandelions. So, my tortoises aren't able to eat the soil.
