Not As Good As YESTERDAY'S NEWS
I would rate it 3.5 STARS, but it doesn't allow that rating. I used Yesterday's News for many, many years. I stockpiled it when they announced they would no longer make it. I just ran out a month or so ago. I always remove the saturated area of urine. This litter smells strongly of ammonia in the urine areas. I do use Zero Odor to spray the box when I finish scooping, but the litter in my disposal bag smells very strongly. Never had this issue with YESTERDAY'S NEWS, but ALAS, it's NO LONGER AVAILABLE, so, this is it.
Smells horrible
I was really hoping this would be a good replacement for my cat's messy pine litter. Unfortunately, the scent for this is horribly strong, even when it's in the litterbox. If you're at all sensitive to smells, don't get this. Also, I think my cat has some sort of intolerance to whatever chemical they're using to make it smell, because ever since using this he's been having diarrhea. I think it might be getting on his paws. I'm considering trying the unscented one because while this smells bad, the litter itself holds up really well and doesn't crumble into sawdust. I also like that the bag is resealable.
Cat hates this litter!
I tried mixing it with clay litter, but my cat refused to use it. So I’m stuck with an 85% full bag! She’s 15..and has used clay litter her whole life. I switched hoping that it wouldn’t stick to her paws. I ended up with Fresh Step Clean Paws and it’s working great.
Good product
I'm not a clay litter lover. Really like this product, handles odor well. I only have one cat & she's much happier with paper litter than clay. Been looking for a paper product since Yesterday's News disappeared. This is a great substitute.
Fresh News
I love this litter!! Trust me, I have tried them all from sawdust to wheat and to put it blunt, they suck. I have had cats steadily for the last two decades and even my rabbit used the kitty pan and I wish when I had him that Fresh News had been around. I scoop out the solids and add a little more litter and there is no ammonia, no dust, no tracking, NOTHING!! Yes I'm raving, but this litter is truly the best.
THIS replaces Yesterday's News perfectly
Like a lot of you, I was SO upset when Yesterday's News was discontinued. I tried other paper pellet brands that friends suggested but they just didn't work the same, they couldn't hold odor back. The ammonia locker on this one actually WORKS. There is no overpowering perfume smell, it's as gentle and unnoticeable as Yesterday's News scented and it locks in the ammonia smell so you don't smell it when scooping. I'm glad I found a replacement, I couldn't stand the thought of having dirty dusty litter, this is much better for my cats and I when it comes to clean breathing and clean paws.
Great Product
I've used something similar to this product. It's very good absorption for urine and fecal matters. Just need a scooper to get it out of litter box.
Keeps the house smelling good
I am very pleased with this litter. My house no longer smells when the cats use the litter box. You might think the scent is strong in the bag, but once in the litter box it smells fine.
Seems to somehow strengthen the smell of urine.
I tried this stuff as a cheaper alternative to the more expensive newsprint-based litter. Never again.
Chewey stinks as much as this litter
I placed numerous orders from Chewey. Most of the times I received coupons or emails and when. I went to use them they were not valid. These coupons would come to my house via home mail. Last time I made a purchase I was told If I spent $40 I would be given a $25 e gift card. It was added to my cart at checkout. I receive this litter which is nothing like yesterdays news. I would not recommend it. Chewey tells me I do not qualify for the gift card. Yet I spent over the total needed, it showed the card was in my cart, package arrives and no e-gift card. What a joke. I will not purchase from Chewey again. They send you coupons so you purchase from them, be wary of this company.
