Too Small for a 55 lb Lab!
My sister Chase and I are small - medium size 55 & 58 lbs and we love to eat our Chewy food but we can hardly fit our nose and mouth in this bowl to eat! We do need a slow feeder but this food bowl is so small and frustrating! Fortunately our owners understand and are donating the bowls to a shelter and found us some larger new slow feeder bowls! Molly
Almost Slow Feeder
This is a really well made little bowl. It is solid and polished, feels good to the touch, and cleans up easily. I got it for my 13 lb. Pekinese/Chihuahua mix girl that eats too fast. The drawback is that there are only 3 'separators' to divide the food, and it doesn't slow her down all that much. I continue to use it though, because it helps slightly, and is pretty cool looking.
Nice but not for my cat
I purchased this feeder to hopefully slow my cat down from inhaling his food and then getting sick. It looks nice and I like that it has a non-skid bottom. Unfortunately the sides are too high and the feeder itself isn't very wide so he has a hard time getting to the small kibble. I think for a small dog with slightly larger kibble it would be great, but it was too difficult for my cat to even get his food. I will need to return it and look for something wider and more shallow.
Tommie's confused, I'm impressed and it works great!!
My rescue Tommie came with food issues. She ate so fast that too much excitement after eating or drinking would definitely cause her to throw up. Tonight I put her mix of canned and kibble in this slow feeder for the first time. Tommie put her nose down, moved it then turned her head and gave me a side eyed look of " Ma, what are you doing to me now? " I had to laugh, she normally would have already had 2 bites by then ! Anyway I had a good time watching her maneuver her way around the bowl. She did to nose some out of the bowl, but couldn't do it. I'm glad that I read the suggestions about sizes and I didn't get the largest one. It took Tommie so long to finish her meal that TeddyBear, Mr Slow Poke, finished his meal first and stopped by to watch Tommie work on hers. Let me mention that the wet food ended up at the bottom of the bowl and that slowed down her eating even more - Win win !! TeddyBear was very pleased with this turn of events too. Because of her issues, he hasn't been eating in peace and comfort either. Thanks Frisco and Chewy, This is a new beginning of stress less eating for all of us ♡
While the bowl it self is wonderful, cleans easily and absolutely slows down the consumption of their food....the 'gold trim' is a joke. It is almost completely gone after the 2nd time being washed. So if you aren't looking for a bowl to be pretty with gold trim - this bowl is perfect.
Frisco slow feed dog and cat bowl with gold trim
This bowl is too small for my 9 lb cat - may be good for a smaller dog or kitten. (I ordered this size) It is reasonably heavy and has 4 gripping feet so it does not get pushed around (with the food messing up the the floor) I'll order a larger size.
Cats unfazed with eating challenge
These, at first glance, are beautiful nicely glazed bowls that designed to cause a feeding animal to slow down while eating contents of the bowl. The upward smooth projections do that function nicely and safely. Every bowl full is licked clean at every feeding! The only disappointment is the poorly (cheap) applied gold trim atop the edge of the bowl appears to rapidly flake off within 6 or 7 feedings! Possibly why the sale offer - Buy 2 and get 1 additional free - was placed on these bowls.
A Little Deep
I bought this for a puppy and it is a little deep for her yet. The gold trim mentioned has already started coming off. I bought another bowl that is pink slow eater bowl and much lower. For a pup it is better.
Gold detail comes right off
Works with wet food for my cats. They don't throw up when I use this dish. The gold paint is coming right off with just a sponge, which makes me worried that my cats are eating the paint.
Our Boston Terrier wolfs down his food and was starting to vomit after feeding. Given his small size (16#), this is the perfect size for his 1/2 cup of dry food. Nearly doubles his feeding time and no more vomiting. Easy to clean and seems like little risk of breaking.
