Saying goodbye to your favorite furry friend is never easy, but books like God Needed a Puppy help make the process a little bit easier. This hardcover book was written by John Gray, a man who unexpectedly lost his puppy far too soon at just six months old. This difficult time in his life is what inspired him to write a book that would help children answer the question “why?” after losing a pet. This story was created to guide them through the grieving process with the help of friendly characters like Edgar the Owl and Freddy the Fox. They help comfort youngsters by letting them know this moment of sadness won’t last forever and that someday there may even be other furry companions who will enter their lives and bring them the same joy as their passed loved ones. This touching novel with beautiful illustrations by Shanna Brickell can be the helping hand children and even adults need during challenging times.

About the Author

John Gray is a journalist, columnist, husband, father and passionate pet lover. This Emmy award-winning writer drew triumph from tragedy when he lost his furry family member, Samuel, at only six months old. During this time and being a dad himself, he thought about a child’s ability or even inability to cope with such a loss. It was this experience and thought process that encouraged him to write God Needed a Puppy—a story to help guide children (and adults) through the grieving process and help them get back on their feet.
