About Grandma Lucy’s Artisan Dog Food

Freeze-Dried, Solution-Based Feeding

Solution-based feeding is the focus for all Grandma Lucy’s recipes. Each nutritious freeze-dried formula is made using only wholesome, minimally processed ingredients.

Ingredients with a Purpose

It takes high-quality ingredients to produce high-quality food. That’s why Grandma Lucy’s uses only the highest quality ingredients from trusted suppliers and farms. Artisan recipes are perfect for all breeds and life stages—feed them as a main meal, topper or as an addition to any homemade treat!

Family Values

Grandma Lucy’s is a company that cares. They care about pets, they care about nutrition, and they care about ingredients. They also care about giving, and they care about getting it all done right.

How Freeze-Drying Works

The freeze-drying process used by Grandma Lucy’s removes 92% of the water in the ingredients, leaving a food that is lightweight, compact, shelf-stable and preservative-free. Compared to other drying processes like dehydration or air drying, freeze-drying is better at retaining the characteristics of raw food. It preserves more flavor and keeps much of the food’s original texture after reconstitution.

Delicious and Highly Digestible

All-Natural and Grain-Free

Artisan recipes are minimally processed and made with whole muscle meats, fruits and vegetables.

Limited Ingredient Recipes

Ideal for picky eaters, sensitive stomachs, and those new to freeze-dried food, these limited ingredient recipes are ideal for dogs at every stage of life.

Quality You Can Trust

Artisan recipes never include by-products, meals, preservatives, added hormones, antibiotics, or feed-grade or animal-grade ingredients.

Muscle & Organ Meats

Only lightly braised, minimally processed whole muscle and organ meats are used, with no meat meals or by-products.

All Natural

Minimally processed ingredients with added vitamins and minerals make these all-natural recipes naturally nutritious.

Grain-Free

Palatable, digestible and perfect for all life stages, these recipes are made without any grain.

Made in the USA

Every Artisan recipe is made in small batches at Grandma Lucy’s Southern California facility.

About Grandma Lucy’s

Grandma Lucy’s began when founders Breann & Eric Shook started their quest for safe, healthy dog treats. Their 11-year old English Cocker Spaniel, Lucy, had developed food allergies that prevented her from eating most treats, and as they learned what was in pet food, they were surprised at the inferior ingredient quality. After consulting with vets and nutritionists, they started home cooking Lucy’s meals and treats, and what resulted was the basis for the healthy pet foods they make today.

How many cups are in a 3lb bag?

Answer by ChewyJun 05, 2025
A 3lb bag makes approximately 15 pounds of fresh food. The manufacturer is unable to provide an estimate of how many cups per bag since their recipes are made in small batches so there can be a slight variation from bag to bag. Measurement may vary in volume due to its unique texture and composition and the exact amount may differ based on factors like settling and food preparation.

My dog recently had oral surgery to remove teeth he somehow broke. Vet said for his entire recovery time, he needed to be eating only soft food so he'd be less likely to rip out stitches by accident. I found 3 Bears at my local store, in the sample and 3lb sizes, and wanted to see if my notoriously picky eater would like this. He really did, so I ordered the largest bag to use in rotation with other raw food alternatives. Mixed with water from the teakettle, I can make it runny or thick, I can top it with bits of scrambled egg or drizzle some milk on top, and the picky eater licks the bowl clean. Even though he no longer needs to eat only soft food, I found he really liked this one, so it now replaces kibble in his rotation. Great product - plus, it supports Reading to Dogs programs for kids.

Healthy dog food made easy

This is a very nutritious, yet easily served food for Sunny . We used to make her food, now we can just add to it or NOT, depending on the day. Thanks

I got this sample a few years ago at the local Pet’s store, I ended up ordering directly from this company since local store stopped carrying. When I used cold water to hydrate the food, it was still loose. When I added hot water, the texture got thicken. My dog eats fast. When I mix with dry food with three bear, it helps him not caugh during his meal. So I make 3 days amount in a small cup. I boil water, add to the three bear, cool and keep it in the refrigerator. I put on top of his dry food like gravy.

My dogs didn't like it, when you mix it with water it basically turns into an oatmeal texture, I'm on a fixed income and can't afford to waste my money, so now I'm stuck with 2 bags of dog food that my dogs won't eat and I'm out of almost $200. I'll never buy this again.

My dog has been eating 3 Bears for about 6 months due to getting diagnosed with a health condition that prohibits her from eating kibble. It's easy to prepare, you can easily switch between the chicken, beef and fish and her poops are solid. Not to mention, she loves it. A 3 pound bag lasts my 40 pound dog about a week and while it is more expensive than kibble, it's much less expensive than all of the other alternatives that I've looked into. I also like that it is a family owned business and they were very helpful when I had questions.
