About Grandma Lucy’s Artisan Dog Food

Freeze-Dried, Solution-Based Feeding

Solution-based feeding is the focus for all Grandma Lucy’s recipes. Each nutritious freeze-dried formula is made using only wholesome, minimally processed ingredients.

Ingredients with a Purpose

It takes high-quality ingredients to produce high-quality food. That’s why Grandma Lucy’s uses only the highest quality ingredients from trusted suppliers and farms. Artisan recipes are perfect for all breeds and life stages—feed them as a main meal, topper or as an addition to any homemade treat!

Family Values

Grandma Lucy’s is a company that cares. They care about pets, they care about nutrition, and they care about ingredients. They also care about giving, and they care about getting it all done right.

How Freeze-Drying Works

The freeze-drying process used by Grandma Lucy’s removes 92% of the water in the ingredients, leaving a food that is lightweight, compact, shelf-stable and preservative-free. Compared to other drying processes like dehydration or air drying, freeze-drying is better at retaining the characteristics of raw food. It preserves more flavor and keeps much of the food’s original texture after reconstitution.

Delicious and Highly Digestible

All-Natural and Grain-Free

Artisan recipes are minimally processed and made with whole muscle meats, fruits and vegetables.

Limited Ingredient Recipes

Ideal for picky eaters, sensitive stomachs, and those new to freeze-dried food, these limited ingredient recipes are ideal for dogs at every stage of life.

Quality You Can Trust

Artisan recipes never include by-products, meals, preservatives, added hormones, antibiotics, or feed-grade or animal-grade ingredients.

Muscle & Organ Meats

Only lightly braised, minimally processed whole muscle and organ meats are used, with no meat meals or by-products.

All Natural

Minimally processed ingredients with added vitamins and minerals make these all-natural recipes naturally nutritious.

Grain-Free

Palatable, digestible and perfect for all life stages, these recipes are made without any grain.

Made in the USA

Every Artisan recipe is made in small batches at Grandma Lucy’s Southern California facility.

About Grandma Lucy’s

Grandma Lucy’s began when founders Breann & Eric Shook started their quest for safe, healthy dog treats. Their 11-year old English Cocker Spaniel, Lucy, had developed food allergies that prevented her from eating most treats, and as they learned what was in pet food, they were surprised at the inferior ingredient quality. After consulting with vets and nutritionists, they started home cooking Lucy’s meals and treats, and what resulted was the basis for the healthy pet foods they make today.

My dogs can’t wait for dinner time

I’m new to the freeze dried food world for dogs, but wanted to add it to their diet after reading how good it is for them vs kibble. Well, it’s all so expensive

I’m new to the freeze dried food world for dogs, but wanted to add it to their diet after reading how good it is for them vs kibble. Well, it’s all so expensive. This was the most affordable brand so I gave it a try. First started with small bags of the fish variety and beef variety (not grain free). My dogs tore this stuff up! My one dog isn’t very food driven, but after the first night of this stuff, she started whining to me around dinner time to feed her! They both salivate while I’m getting it ready. I went for a big bag the next batch and got the pork option, grain free and they love it just as much! My one girl is allergic to chicken so it is so nice they have so many chicken free options. A lot of reviews complain about the texture, and yes, it comes out looking like mashed potatoes once you add the warm water, but I use it as a topper and it works! I’m very thankful there’s a more affordable option out there!

I use this food as a topper for my dog’s food, and he really loves it! It smells super good when it’s rehydrated, and I love the ingredients! It’s a bit pricey if you’re only feeding this as a full meal, but if you’re using it as a topper like us, it lasts awhile and is affordable!

My dogs hate it. Literally smelled it and then stared at me like “where’s the real food, woman?!” They’re normally scarfers and we have to use slow feeders, but it took an eternity for them to even try it after realizing they weren’t getting anything else and then another eternity for them to get even close to halfway. Bought it as an emergency bag to have around, but figured we’d try it to make sure and they were not fans. They would rate it 0 stars if they could.

Not great for a meal topper

I got a small bag of this because I wanted to try it as a meal topper. My dog has inflammatory bowel disease and can only eat pork and not many brands carry pork

I got a small bag of this because I wanted to try it as a meal topper. My dog has inflammatory bowel disease and can only eat pork and not many brands carry pork toppers. I wasn't aware that the consistency was like finely ground oatmeal. I didn't really notice any fruits or vegetables except for some green and orange flakes. My plan with using this was to sprinkle a tablespoon of it on my dog's food. I already add some water to his food because he gets a lot of powdered supplements in his food and it makes it easier to eat. I thought once I added the water it would thicken or something but honestly it just disappeared and didn't even look like I added anything. I don't want to use much more than a tablespoon because it has a lot of calories in it. The second time I gave it to him I ended up mixing his food like normal, adding his green beans on top then sprinkled the tablespoon on top. That worked better than mixing it in. I was hoping it would add some texture to his food like actual meal toppers but with how ground up it is it's just adding a little flavor. If the food was less calories per cup I'd consider feeding it as a food but I don't want my dog getting fat. I'm sure the fact it's like oatmeal wouldn't bother my dog since he likes almost everything, he just can't have most things. If this food wasn't so powdery I would of given it a better rating.

One of the Secret Bests in dog food.

Grandma Lucy's products - both the Artisan line and the Pureformance line - are the best kept secrets in the world of premium dog food. They're just fabulous!

Grandma Lucy's products - both the Artisan line and the Pureformance line - are the best kept secrets in the world of premium dog food. They're just fabulous! The Pureformance line is higher in protein and has less starch and carbs than the Artisian line, but both are great for variety and nutrition. Plus, the food let's you mix in added vitamins, minerals, supplements, etc so easily. It takes some trial and error to figure out the best way to mix each one ( how much water, shaken or stirred, how long to let it sit before serving, etc), but once you get comfortable making it your set for life. Do you pooch a favor and try some of these excellent 5 star rated foods.
