Gave this to my parakeet a couple weeks ago and he doesn’t seem to have used any of it. I was using a mineral grit previously that she used regularly but I haven’t seen her use it once since I added this to the top of it. The product appears high quality so I had high hopes for it, I might try reintroducing it another time and see if she takes a liking to it! But for now I’ll switch back to the kind I know she’ll use.

I use these crushed oyster shells for my parakeets, and they really enjoy them. The pieces are a good size for small birds, and they provide an excellent source of calcium and minerals. I like that it helps keep their beaks and bones strong, and it’s a natural way to support overall health. The texture is crunchy, which my birds seem to like, and it mixes easily with their regular food or can be offered separately in a small dish. It doesn’t make a mess and feels very clean and fresh right out of the bag. This is a simple but very important supplement for parakeets and parrots. I will continue to keep it on hand as part of my birds’ routine diet.

This grit is ground to just the right size and could be mixed in with food or offered in a separate dish. I put some in a separate dish so I could tell if she took any, but like anything I put in her cage, it can take weeks for her to inspect it and interact with it. Great source of calcium. I think I'm going to try sprinkling it on her food next.

Along with the menagerie of pets I have two canaries which benefit from snacking grit to help with digestion. I feed both seeds and pellets. Obviously the seeds are their favorite. I sprinkle the oyster shell grit over the pellets and they snack them supplemental to their regulars does of seeds. It works well that way.

I have never tried to use this with my parrots, but thought I would give it a shot. I have chickens and they have oyster shells available all the time. Well its been a week and all I see my parrots doing is playing in it. I dont think they are actually eating it. I will continue to leave it in there with them though. I will probably just let my chickens have the rest. I still recommend it though, since i know its good for them.

The bird has ignored it and never ate it, no matter what dish we put it in. He does eat at his cuttlebone, so maybe it's just the fact that at 23 years old he doesn't want to change his routine. Perhaps we could train him to recognize this as edible but right now we wouldn't buy this item.

It was leaking out of the cracks in the box and making a mess. One star is for the packaging, another is because the grit looked like a good size for parakeets.
