FAQ

Has Health Extension been affected by any pet food recalls?

No, our formulas have never had a single recall.

What is the difference between “chicken” meal and “chicken by-product” meal?

Chicken meal is a high quality concentrated protein source that contains muscle meat. By law it may not contain heads, feet or intestines. Chicken by-product meal contains a variety of chicken “parts” including heads, feet and intestines.

Why do you use garlic in certain formulas?

We add a trace of garlic to our canned dog food to increase palatability. While it is a member of the onion family, garlic does not contain a meaningful amount of disulfide and will not cause a dog to become ill.

Where are Health Extension foods made?

All Health Extension products are proudly made in the U.S.A.

What is the shelf life of Health Extension?

Health Extension dry foods have an expiration of 1 year from date of manufacture.

    Healthy, Tasty

    By Doreen on Aug 1, 2021 top1000Contributor

I feed my picky eater a high-grade, grain-free, dry dog food. I had to switch brands because of his allergies and the new food doesn't taste or smell as good so he wouldn't eat it. I bought some of this canned food to mix in and he's eating like a champ! With his allergies, I'm also pleased that this food is simply salmon.

Big Hit for Our Allergy Needs

By CamiJ on Aug 25, 2021

This was a big hit for my LID doggo. She has many food allergies so it is hard to find many foods that she can have. She can have this one and loves it although her mom is less than crazy about the fish smell. Lol.

Wish the Iams salmon and potato would come back

By Fishy on Mar 15, 2021

Our dog has been prescribed salmon and potato for her allergies. It has been unavailable for months. So I found this to give her until the Iams is back. Keep in mind, this is all MY preference, not the dogs. They love it. But the duck in this food makes it so much wetter. We also have to give our dog a pill with each meal. With the salmon and potato, it was easy. This food is so mushy, it is hard to keep the pill inside. And it smells SO much stronger than the salmon and potato. Again, these are MY complaints. If you don't need to touch the food (we do), and you don't mind the smell (we do), then your dog will love this food.

    My dog Loves, loves this

By DogLover on May 3, 2021

I finally found a food my dog would eat. I've made homemade food, raw and she stops eating it. Shes been on this food for a week now, no luring, extra topper, she just goes and eat it all

My 2 dogs like this. They are picky.

By Nicoah on Apr 11, 2021

Seems to be good healthy food. My 2 dogs are extra large and elderly. Their coats are shiney, and they seem healthy.

    Our boys love this Salmon!

    By Lightning on Dec 5, 2020 top50Contributor

First time for trying this brand and I am pleased with the selection. I was looking for a seafood based protein without a lot of fillers thrown in at a comfortable price point. Our boys enjoy fresh salmon when we have it and this food seems to be an equally good substitute. I will purchase it again as well as explore other options in the Health Extension line.

    High quality limited ingredient food

By LindaH on Oct 23, 2020

I ordered a case of Health Extension Salmon on the advice of the customer service agent because the brands that I usually order were unavailable. My collie has severe food allergies and needs a single or limited ingredient food. She loves this food and I believe her licking/scratching/biting has decreased greatly.
