Groundbreaking Nutrition for Sensitive Cats

Cats with skin and coat conditions or food sensitivities can benefit from Hill's Prescription Diet d/d and z/d foods. Prescription Diet d/d has limited ingredient nutrition and a single intact animal protein. The Prescription Diet z/d food features hydrolyzed protein and a single carbohydrate source to minimize the risk of allergic reactions. FORMULA CHANGE? My cat now HATES this food

My cat has been on sensitive stomach foods for around 8 years now. He was previously on the Purina HA version and was switched to Hill's ZD within the last year

My cat has been on sensitive stomach foods for around 8 years now. He was previously on the Purina HA version and was switched to Hill's ZD within the last year due to a different prescribing vet. He was liking it fine up until a couple of weeks ago I noticed he wasn't eating as much. In the last couple of days, he basically stopped it eating it almost entirely. I bought a cheap bag of Purina at the store, and he can't stop eating now. He sniffs the Hill's and won't eat it. After reading some reviews, it appears Hill's may have changed the formula for the ZD dry kibble, and other cats are no longer eating it too. If that's true, I'm upset at Hill's for this because my cat has cancer in remission and I was worried SICK that he was getting sicker when it was just him not liking the food! Give some type of warning if you switch a product especially when cats are already known to be picky eaters! I will be donating the rest of the bag and will be switching him back to Purina's HA.

FORMULA CHANGE: added allergens to hypoallergenic diet!!!

I'd like to start by saying that this review has nothing to do with Chewy. This is specifically regarding Hill's Science Diet which is owned by Colgate-Palmolive

I'd like to start by saying that this review has nothing to do with Chewy. This is specifically regarding Hill's Science Diet which is owned by Colgate-Palmolive. My cat was on this prescription food for a year with no problems. In May of 2025, he suddenly began excessively itching and overgrooming. He has been having recurring ear infections since then which has resulted in numerous expensive vet visits with no answers as to why. It wasn't until 6 months later that I thought to check Chewy's most recent reviews for this product, only to find out that the formula had changed in April 2025 and other people's cats were having allergic reactions to it as well. It appears that Hill's added a bunch of allergenic ingredients like waste products from the nut industry under the guise of "prebiotics" without alerting consumers of the change. Since switching his food back to Royal Canin HP, the ear infections and itching have completely ceased. Unfortunately, the pet food industry isn't regulated enough to prevent these unethical practices from happening or holding these massive corporations accountable when they do. I'm leaving this review for others who may be going through the same thing. If your cat is having an allergic reaction to this food, you are not crazy or imagining it!!!

My poor cat has been pulling out his hair and scratching and meowing for months. Initially was diagnosed with anxiety, we started treating it. With no progress - I took him back to the vet and in my gut I knew food issues. We started this and about a week later, I wasnt walking around finding pom poms of hair laying around the house. He actually loves it too. Not so much the wet pate form -- but loves this. And, if it'll help him, worth the money.

My 15 year old orange tabby has been eating the Z/D with no problems for about a year. Just bought 4 lb bag in Dec 2025. Fed him from the new bag a few days ago. Every meal was vomited soon after eating. Trip to the vet. Now feeding him just wet food. Will be tossing the 45 dollars in the trash. Something has changed.

Our cat has been on this food for years now without issue. Since we opened the latest bag she has been less interested in food, vomiting, and losing weight. Other reviews alerted us to the change in formula. We checked the bag and saw it was in fact the new formula. There was no warning for this and we unknowingly gave our cat an allergen. Thankfully, Chewy, refunded our latest autoship. We will now have to work with our vet to find a new food. This whole situation is very disappointing and was a dangerous choice on behalf of Hills. There is already talk of a class action lawsuit by other pet parents with sick cats and dogs.

My cat is still very itchy and this is all she's eating. Unfortunately this is what the veterinarians recommend across the board. It's highly processed and none of the ingredients seem to be pesticide free or organic which is a real disappointment in the Pet food industry. Who knows what level of quality of ingredients she's eating and it's not helping. I wish cats had more options for allergies, like dogs do. It's truly unfair that research only goes to where the big pharma money is. Canines usually have more available than felines. It's cruel.

The recipe of this cat food was changed after my cat ate it for years. The package didn’t say it was a new recipe, so we were stumped when my cat quit eating and started to act like he was having neurological problems. Thanks to other Chewy member reviews, I discovered the change and got Royal Canin brand instead. He is perfectly fine now.

Easy transition from GI Biome diet! Hoping this food works!

My 3 year old cat has always had stomach issues and we just recently got some answers for it. He has Triaditis. He has been on many prescription diets in the past 2 years and we’re really hoping this one sticks. His diet before trying this food was the GI Biome diet. He loved the GI Biome food and so we had a really hard time finding a hypoallergenic diet that he likes. This food seems perfect! It was an easy transition from the GI Biome diet because the kibble is the same shape, size, and color. He didn’t seem to even notice a difference when we put the foods side by side. He actually preferred this food. With that being said, I’ve seen a lot of reviews from people with cats who have previously been on the z/d diet and they say the recipe has changed and their cats are allergic to it now. I’m really hoping this doesn’t happen for my boy. We have never tried this diet before. So far it seems to be working well and his weight has been doing well too!

Yes this is expensive food. My Trudy was regurgitating her food regularly, practically daily. Yes, I talked to the vet and he said "That's what cats do". Noooo, I have always had a cat (cats) most of my life and not one of them "yakked" like this. I tried everything suggested (elevated bowls, puzzle bowls, changed her diet, grain free, restricted her diet, only dry food, only wet food, only chicken, only duck, only fish, only pate).... you get the picture. Nothing worked. Picking up her 'gifts' of undigested food criticism became a daily irritation until she yakked in my husbands slipper. Less than happy hubby....Then I asked a new vet in the practice. She suggested "hydrolyzed" food. So what was it worth to not pick up the yakk ? I purchased the small bag (4 pounds) just to see thinking this was going to be another failure, hoping she wouldn't turn her finicky cat nose up at it, because, if you know, you know cats can be particular. After a week, there was no yakk, and you KNOW I looked for it.
