My german shepherd mixed just turned 1 year. Can he ear Hill’s Adult Sensitive Stomach & Skin Large Breed Chicken & Barley recipe? He is 74 lbs now
Answer by GabiNov 27, 2022
My shepherd is 105lbs now but we started him on this food around 75lbs and 1 yr old and he is 2 years old now. We had him on wellness but this food has been the best above all for us, his skin is so much better and he no longer throws up. Shepherds are known for having allergies. So yes, I would start him on it. I hope this helps :)

Is this food high in fiber and does it aid in preventing runny stools?
Answer by ChewyDec 22, 2021
This recipe has 1.3% fiber on a dry matter basis. It does have prebiotic fiber to fuel beneficial gut bacteria. It is formulated to support gentle, healthy digestion while promoting lustrous skin and coat. With high digestibility for optimal nutrient absorption and easier stool pick up, this food also includes clinically proven antioxidants for a healthy immune system.

Is there any difference in formulation between large breed and the regular, except the size of the kibble?
Answer by ChewyJan 25, 2021
For a complete list of ingredients, click the “Nutritional Info” tab, next to the “Description” tab, just under the product photos when viewed on a desk top. Click the "Nutritional Info" tab, next to the "Q&A" tab, towards the top bar above the product image when viewed on the app.

How does this food compare to the science diet adult large breed dog food? My 1 yr old boxer is on that and has itchy skin. Would very much like to stick with science diet
Answer by ChewyJan 22, 2021
This recipe is specially formulated with highly-digestible natural ingredients, added vitamins, minerals and amino acids – so your furry friend can absorb all that goodness.

Happy we tried it!

Our now 4.5-year-old GSD has struggled with allergies - food and environmental resulting in constant scratching and occasional reflux. We've tried several GSD-appropriate high-quality foods and used an anti-inflammatory medicine, probiotics, and nutritional supplements for that same time with limited success. Since switching him to Hill's Science Diet Adult Sensitive Stomach & Skin over a year ago he's doing great! No more scratching or reflux. We still use supplements (although we did change those to better match the Hills food) and the same anti-inflammatory but Hill's sensitive stomach food has certainly helped things improve dramatically. Every dog is different, and our approach may not be the right one for your pup. But for us and our pup, it's been a very welcome improvement!

Definitely worth it!

I tried so many different expensive diets for my baby. No matter what she ate she had constant runny poops & gas that smelled awful. Her yeast/skin issues were flaring and getting bad also. I finally tried this brand and within a week everything resolved itself! You can tell she feels so much better and relieved!

Good Dog Food

My german shepherd has had terrible itchy skin. I have been switching foods with no luck then I decided to try this one most recently. He has been on this about a month. I cannot say for sure, but it seems to have helped him. I also have him on some chewable tablets for itch relief that I mash up in the food but he hates the taste of the chewable tablets so when they are gone I am going to keep trying this food and then I will see if it was the food that helped or the tablets. He seems to like the taste of this food but it is a bit pricey.

Works, when others didn't

I was feeding another sensitive skin/stomach dog food and our boxer kept having tummy issues every 3-4 days with it, the rumblies, runny stool, throwing up occasionally - I switched to this and issues over within 2 days. He loves it and is eager to eat again, and I love the large kibble for his teeth.

Thinking of Trying It? Do It!

I have a pit mix that just turned 2. His whole life, he has struggled with tummy troubles and loose stools. Even trying a variety of foods and supplements from the vet, nothing worked. Eventually I moved and my new vet recommended Hills. Honestly, I was skeptical at first, but what did I have to lose? And how happy I was that we tried it! What an amazing difference it has made! Not only are his stools firm, but even the gas and tummy rumbles are gone! I could not be more pleased. If you are considering it, try it! It just might work for you too!

Amaze balls

We had our pyredoodle on exclusive for his whole 8.5 years of life. Month and a half ago, he started getting diarrhea horribly bad and lethargy. We could not figure out what the problem was. We thought rabbit poop, cancer, etc. All came back clear. Turns out the formula changed AGAIN. Poor guy was stuck on the rice and venison only diet. Someone recommended science diet, and we chose the stomach care. It's expensive, but works brilliantly. His diarrhea stopped immediately and his goofy personality returned within 2 days! Highly recommend!

Finally Solved Stomach Issues

Our German Shepard and Husky mix had mucus covered loose stool that she could not hold. Several tests, scans, and foods later this was finally the solution! She is 100 percent back to normal. She likes it too.

Less scratching

Had my lab on a more expensive food and switched to this after hearing good things. He has been on it for about 30 days and he seems to be scratching and licking less. Fingers crossed!

highly recommend

My sister-in-law is a vet tech and when we first got our Rottweiler, she immediately recommended this brand. We were kind of hoping this brand wouldn't stick (because it was so pricey lol), but after the many compliments of her coat becoming so shiny/healthy, we can't change!
