What is the difference between this and the “science diet indoor kitten” dry food??

Answer by ChewyOct 17, 2019
The Hill's Science Diet Indoor Kitten Dry Cat Food (item 52723) is formulated specifically for cats who will spend most, if not all of their time indoors. It contains prebiotic fibers for a tidier litter box. While the Hill's Science Diet Kitten Chicken Recipe Dry Cat Food (item 48927) is designed for both indoor and outdoor kittens.

Is it ok for an adult cat to eat the kitten formula? She prefers it because of the smaller size.

Answer by ChewyJan 21, 2019
It is generally not recommended to feed kitten food to an adult since kitten food tends to be higher in calories, protein and fat.

At what age should I stop feeding my kitten this?

Answer by ChewyFeb 16, 2019
Kittens should be fed a growth-formulated diet until they are at least 90 percent of their adult weight. In general, kittens reach this milestone at about 10 to 12 months of age. The exception is for larger breed cats.

Does this product contain corn products?

Answer by ChewyJul 02, 2018

Finally solid poops!

I adopted a kitten a few months ago when she was 3 months old, and since we got her she had been struggling with frequent diarrhea, we were feeding her wet food and dry, so we started by eliminating the wet food to see if that was the problem, still no solid poos, we then switched to a different dry food that was specifically for gentle stomach kittens, helped a bit but not much, we took her to the vet and her tests came back negative for any viruses or parasites, I was getting extremely concerned. Finally switched the dry food for the third time to this, and almost cried tears of joy as I watched my dear sweet cat let out her first solid poo! No idea what was going on with the other two foods, but if your kitten is having bowel issues definitely try this.

Kittens were a little ambivalent about this food at first - they much prefer their wet food. HOWEVER, they started to eat it and were fine with it. I appreciate that the small size of the pellets are easy for them to eat. The real lover of this food, however, is my senior cat, who decided he wanted to steal all the kitten food. He has a sensitive stomach, but this food didn't upset him. I let him continue to steal it. So, not quite the intended audience, but I'll take it.

Kittens really like this food, and I went on a limb to buy a 15 pound bag instead of the 7 pound I usually buy. Unfortunately, chewy didn’t go through any extra steps to make the package durable, so I lost probably at least 3 pounds of cat food to the apartment hallway. It would have been nice to have more intentional logistics coming from chewy warehouses.

Vet recommended

Our vet recommended this food for our male kitten to help prevent urinary tract issues. We are almost finished with this bag and he seems to like it so far.

The only dry food my kitten will eat

My kitten, Rue was a shelter foster fail. This food (and the wet version) is what the shelter provides for fosters to feed the kittens under their care. Once we adopted Rue, my intention was to switch to a higher quality product because I have never been impressed with this brand's ingredients. When we still had her littermates, Rue ate whatever they ate because siblings are typically competitive that way. But once her brother and sister were adopted, she no longer wanted the food she had been eating for 2 months, she wanted what my adult cats were eating. I tried to transition Rue to a couple different high-quality kitten foods (both wet and dry), but she only wanted what the adult cats were eating. She's now 5 months old, and I still can only get her to eat adult wet food. I usually keep some dry food out overnight and when I go to work just in case anyone gets snacky, but I mostly feed wet food to my 3 cats. Once my supply of dry food was low, I decided to order this product because the per pound price was about $3 per pound less than the other food she refused to eat. And now she loves it again and I see her at the bowl regularly eating it. Now I am less worried she's not getting some of the extra nutrients kittens need to develop properly, and I'm not worried about my adult cats eating it because they don't really care for dry food.

This comes highly recommended by our vet, but my kitten absolutely does not recommend it. haha! He will nibble at it throughout the day, but he absolutely will not eat enough of it to get the calories he needs. My vet suggested *only* giving him kibble if that's the case ("he'll eat it if he's hungry enough"), but that feels a little cruel to me. Would *YOU* want to only have the option to eat something you didn't like every day forever? So, we'll be switching to something else. It seems nutritionally sound, though, if you can get your cat to eat it.
