Feeding Instructions

For Adult cats, feed 1 can per 6 - 8 lbs. of body weight per day. Kittens require up to 2 and a half times this amount. For pregnant and lactating females, allow free access to food. Adjust the amount of food you serve based on the age, size and activity level of your cat. Food should be fed at room temperature.

Transition Instructions

If you are currently free-feeding a kibble, the first step is to feed your cat at meal times. Put the kibble down for a 20-30 minute time frame for a few days to help your cat recognize that this is feeding time. Yes, your cat will be hungry at these mealtimes if they have been used to grazing all day long, but this step will help in the transition.

Once these meal times are established, then try introducing canned food. Your cat will either like it and your transition took no time at all, or you may have to keep trying to entice the cat. If your cat will not eat the canned food you have offered, try putting some kibble on the top to entice the cat. If that doesn’t work, feed kibble and try a different protein at the next mealtime. It may take a while – a few day or a few weeks – for your cat to realize that this is food, but remember that you are doing it to better your cats health.

    I am FLOORED

    By on

I thought for certain that all of these lower star reviews were from people with picky cats, and had to be overdramatized. So I figured, what the heck, it’s cheaper than all of the other flavors so I’ll try it. Now let me preface the rest of this review with this: one of my cats is basically a goat in feline form. This cat will eat ANYTHING. I could cut up a rusty old can and if I put it in his bowl, he’d eat it. He’s INSANE. He’s never turned down any calorie-laden snack or food in his life. He would not. eat. this. food. I am shocked. It must really taste flippin terrible!!! So I’ll call it a loss and try another flavor, but for all of you out there right now, reading through the reviews I thought for certain that all of these lower star reviews were from people with picky cats, and had to be overdramatized. It’s good quality, and it’s cheap!” Just don’t. Don’t do what I did. Now I’m out $26 and we’re going back to his regular food anyway. … more

    Bummer, it's a no go

    By on Top 50 Contributor

I've tried this brand in the past with no issues, different flavors. The beef, I could not get any one cat to eat it, even the non fussy kitty. It was priced right to try, but I won't purchase this again.

    Kittens love this

    By on

My kittens love this food. It is a softer pate, and they have consistently liked it for a few cans now (which as you know is not always the case).

    Very Pleasantly Surprised!

    By on

I have 6 cats. Wet food gets expensive. I am forever researching foods, companies, manufacturer’s to find the best food at an affordable price. This brand is normally too expensive. A case will only last me about 6 days. At $42-$54, that is just too much. This beef popped up at a great price. However, I was hesitant because the reviews, on the beef, are not good for the most part. This is not a brand I can try beforehand. It is not available in any pet store close to me. 4 of my cats are not picky at all. The other 2 are not overly picky but on occasion they will refuse a food. Due to the reviews, I thought for sure at least one of my 6 would refuse. However, the price was so good, I had to try I have 6 cats. Wet food gets expensive. Surprise! All 6 cats liked this beef food and cleaned their bowls. Some of the reviews say the food is dry. I found the food to be moist. The can is also packed with food, which I like. It doesn’t have any gravy. Maybe that’s what others were referring too when they said the food is dry. If you are mixing with kibble you may want to add a bit of water. If not, I think it’s just fine. My cats are use to eating a variety of flavors and textures. I am not loyal to any brand. I shop quality and price. I even feed them frozen raw 2 to 3 meals per week. Maybe that’s why they took so well to this. They are use to many types of food. My only regret is that I didn’t order more before Chewy sold out. I was hesitant because of the not so great reviews. If this beef comes back in stock and is still a good price, I will definitely order again and keep this in the rotation. Great food and brand! My cats enjoyed this beef food! Thank you! … more

    Good quality product however...

    By on

I wish this company would make their product more moist...and the taste didn't really draw my cats..that being said, it is a good quality food without harmful ingredients. Add water....Maybe they could add another protein to it.. like turkey for flavor..but great for single ingredient protein diet..say if your cat is allergic to chicken.

Love H&G but not the beef!

    By on

My cats are not picky eaters by any means however this food was licked at and then left in the bowls! The kitten I caught off the streets will eat anything including broccoli and spaghetti noodles but refused this food. We love H&G and my cats devour their chicken flavor however there is just something about the beef that kitties do not like, so beware before you are lured in to the lower price tag like I was if this product is ever continued.

    They do not enjoy it

    By on Top 1000 Contributor

The texture is hard. I add hot water and squash with a fork. Sometimes they will eat a little of it if they are starved. I'll have to buy the more expensive meats Lamb and trout and feed as a special treat.

    jury is still out

    By on Top 1000 Contributor

This got high marks on catfood database. Both of my picky eaters liked it for a week and after I bought a case, they have been less than thrilled (of course). Nothing wrong with this (what is wrong is my silly cats' preferences - they have no right being this picky as rescue cat adoptees). It works if I put a sprinkle of dry food topper on it.

My cats did not enjoy this flavor

    By on Top 250 Contributor

Other than licking to taste the food, my cats would not eat it. However, the ferals that I help feed liked the food.

    Beef or Chicken?

    By on

Hard to believe that it's actually beef. It's pale pink and smells like chicken.
