Feeding Instructions

For Adult cats, feed 1 can per 6 - 8 lbs. of body weight per day.

Kittens require up to 2 and a half times this amount. For pregnant and lactating females, allow free access to food. Adjust the amount of food you serve based on the age, size and activity level of your cat. Food should be fed at room temperature. Promptly refrigerate the unused portion.

Transition Instructions

If you are currently free-feeding a kibble, the first step is to feed your cat at meal times. Put the kibble down for a 20-30 minute time frame for a few days to help your cat recognize that this is feeding time. Yes, your cat will be hungry at these mealtimes if they have been used to grazing all day long, but this step will help in the transition.

Once these meal times are established, then try introducing canned food. Your cat will either like it and your transition took no time at all, or you may have to keep trying to entice the cat. If your cat will not eat the canned food you have offered, try putting some kibble on the top to entice the cat. If that doesn’t work, feed kibble and try a different protein at the next mealtime. It may take a while – a few day or a few weeks – for your cat to realize that this is food, but remember that you are doing it to better your cats health.

Picky IBD cat loved immediately, excellent ingredients

    By on

My cat has food intolerances to everything including peas, and peas are unfortunately found in almost all grain free foods as a filler. No carrageenan, no guar gum, no by-products, no carbs cats can’t digest-this food is really excellent. Enzo has always liked turkey so that might play a part in why he took to it immediately. The other thing I love is that it’s the perfect pate consistency that I’ve ever bought, and I’ve bought A LOT. It’s not mushy but it’s not as hard as Instinct and Nutro have been. Some of the reviews noting the gelatin aspect are older and I assume they’ve changed the formula since then because there is zero gelatin is the cans I received. Plenty of moisture. As I said, it’s not mushy but it leans that way, so if your cat prefers a thicker or chunky pate this might not be for you. I’d recommend at least trying though, simply because it’s hard to find a food that’s better than this, ingredient wise. The only drawback, is that it smells pretty terrible. But I’ll happily put up with it! Highly recommend this food. … more

Great ingredients but bummed that the cats won't eat it

    By on

I ordered this and the game bird flavor, my 3 cats all like the game bird flavor but not the turkey, for some reason. Even my vacuum cleaner-esque cat won't eat all of her dinner. I've fed it three days in a row now and each time, the food is completely untouched. So maybe it's just a bad batch. It smells fine to me but ya never know.

I have two cats, both with digestive issues so have to feed them a single protein product with absolutely no fillers. They both love Hound & Gatos, it's easy on their bellies and less expensive than what I was feeding before. .

    Loved it immediately

He went crazy for this food the second I opened the can. I put a little bit next to his normal food and he ate this first.

    my kitty loves this stuff!

    By on

I first found this brand by doing some research online using this unbiased website called, “we’re all about cats” and this brand was one of their top five picks. I love how it’s 98% meat with no unnecessary carbs or fillers, I was very hesitant at first because of all the negative reviews about cats not liking it, but sure enough my kitty ran over with the quickness when she smelt the food and licked her bowl clean! She wouldn’t even touch her old dry cat food that was mixed in with it, she separated those out. Not bashing the brand but she was eating Hill’s science diet before and I didn’t really realize how unfitting it was for her until I looked at the ingredients and it contains A LOT of I first found this brand by doing some research online using this unbiased website called, “we’re all about cats” and this brand was one of their top five picks. Helped Kitty's Tummy Issues

    By on

We got a new cat last year and for months she's had stomach issues (gas, diarrhea, etc) although the vet says she's perfectly healthy. After months of dealing with this, I realized that she either (1) has a food allergy or (2) has IBS. After some research, I found that Hound & Gatos came highly recommended for cats who suffer from stomach problems. So, I have been giving her exclusively H&G food, trying one flavor (protein) at a time. The turkey formula was the first one I tried and her diarrhea and gas were gone within 3 days. So far, the lamb formula has also been good. I had less luck with the duck formula (stomach issues came back), although she did like the taste. High quality cat food

    By on

I use this brand due to multiple food allergies in one of my cats. It's not their favorite flavor but works as substitute for when their favorite is unavailable.

    Awesomeness!

    By on

Since I don't have pet insurance, nor can afford to go to a veterinary... The next best thing is a preventive step in my cats diet...so unless you feed your cat raw food as they would naturally do on their own,I choice to feed her the best that's available without the standard harmful fillers that so disrupts their digestive system... So my cat is 14 years young! Healthy and happy!

This food used to be very good but now there is a lot of gelitan in the can and the meat itself is like a gravy. I have bought 5 cases of this thinking it is a bad batch but all are like this and my cats will not eat it now It is too bad because the food used to be very good

    Cat says 'no good'

    By on

Tried giving this to my cat, he loves most meat products, he would not touch this stuff. Also the smell is not very pleasant and there is a lot of a gel like substance covering the meat as well. I now have a full case I wish I could return because my cat will not eat it at all. I would not recommend purchasing this food.
