Feeding Instructions

Adult: Feed 1 can per 6-8 lbs. of body weight per day.

Kittens: Require up to two and a half times this amount.

Gestation & Lactation: Allow free access to food. Adjust the amount of food you serve based on the age, size and activity level of your cat. Food should be fed at room temperature. Promptly refrigerate the unused portion. Fresh water should be available at all times.

Transition Instructions

If you are currently free-feeding a kibble, the first step is to feed your cat at meal times. Put the kibble down for a 20-30 minute time frame for a few days to help your cat recognize that this is feeding time. Yes, your cat will be hungry at these mealtimes if they have been used to grazing all day long, but this step will help in the transition.

Once these meal times are established, then try introducing canned food. Your cat will either like it and your transition took no time at all, or you may have to keep trying to entice the cat. If your cat will not eat the canned food you have offered, try putting some kibble on the top to entice the cat. If that doesn’t work, feed kibble and try a different protein at the next mealtime. It may take a while – a few day or a few weeks – for your cat to realize that this is food, but remember that you are doing it to better your cats health.

    My Cat Likes It

    By on

If my cat likes it, then it is 5 stars for me. She has to eat a novel protein and difficult to find one she likes and doesn't bother her sensitive tummy. This food smells good, only wish it came in a gravy, that would be even better, but it does have alot of juiciness to it

Hound & Gatos: Cat Food Fine Dining

    By on

In spite of being on prescription food and metronidazole for IBD, our cat's vomiting and severe diarrhea kept getting worse. Days of online research led me to Hound & Gatos food at a specialty pet food store. After trying a few different Hound & Gatos proteins, my cat loved this Duck & Liver Formula Grain-Free canned cat food as well as the Hound & Gatos Gamebird flavor. Cricket has since had explatory surgery and the pathology confirmed IBD so she's on steroids and has put on a whole pound while eating Hound & Gatos canned food. The food looks and smells better than all other canned foods I've fed my cats. I've dealt with Hound & Gatos customer service and they've been responsive and informative In spite of being on prescription food and metronidazole for IBD, our cat's vomiting and severe diarrhea kept getting worse. It's clear they're a company that cares about the quality of their products and how they affect my pets. Hound & Gatos is food I don't feel guilty feeding my cat. I can see the positive difference Hound & Gatos has made in my cat's coat and disposition. Cricket zooms around the house like a kitten and her coat is lustrous for a geriatric cat. Yes, the steroids have a huge impact on the IBD but in conjunction with pure, species appropriate food, Cricket's quality of life has done a 360. Thank you Chewy for carrying Hound & Gatos! … more

    My picky kitty loves this!

    By on

I have two kitties....one who eats everything, and the other who is really picky and hardly eats anything. I have tried practically every quality food I can think of for the picky kitty to eat only to have him turn up his nose and walk away. Even trials of most quality foods don't work. But he took to this food right away and devours it (as does the other kitty, of course) which makes me so grateful as I know they are both eating good, quality food! Now I am going to try the chicken and turkey of this brand too.

First Time "Thumbs Down" ( If my cats had thumbs) For Hound & Gatos

    By on

I am thankful for Hound & Gatos dedication to high quality pet food. It is a wonderful company with very high standards! Our dogs and cats usually enjoy it. Their favorite flavors haven't been available for awhile, so I gave this one a try. The texture wasn't as described by the many reviews I read. It was very dense. Since the cats didn't like it I thought that I would give it to the dogs. Out of 7 cats and 2 dogs not one would even taste it after smelling it. There were some reviews which said that their pet wouldn't try it, so I wasn't totally surprised, just disappointed. I will add that my gang's opinion was in the minority. I had high hopes for this one..

    By on

Since my cat is limited to her proteins, I was excited for this one. It seems to have good reviews and gets sold out a lot. However, when I opened it and smelled it I had a feeling she would not like it and I was right. Even the neighborhood cat who stops by for eats turned his nose up at it. I’m really disappointed.

Best cat food ever, excellent customer service, both H&G and Chewy!!!

    By on

This canned cat food is the best one I have found so far (after a long and thorough research.) It is recommended and awarded also by Dr. Lisa Pierson, cat specialist veterinary @ catinfo.org. Moisture rich, no weird unhealthy ingredients, no "veggies/fruits from the garden"... no soy, corn, wheat, beans nor pea protein, (cats are OBLIGATED CARNIVORES!!!), no synthetic vitamin K (menadione sodium bisulfite complex, K3) and no preservatives!!! Just keep in mind that duck meat is the fattiest among bird meat/poultry, so please, do not complain about fat percentage (do your own research.) Also, since this brand do not add preservatives, the food should be consumed quickly. Senior kitty loves it

    By on

My senior kitty loves this duck flavor! His sensitive system loves it. & I love the ingredients. This is my most recent hope for a Wild Calling duck replacement... after so many refusals. Now that I know he’ll clean plate H&G duck... I very much hope it comes back in stock!

It was a no in this house

    By on

We have one cat who will eat anything you put in front of her, and one who's very picky. I'm sad to say that neither of them particularly cared for this food. I'd read that Hound and Gatos was good quality and thought maybe I could add it into their diet. The picky cat ate about 1/3 of this, and even later in the evening when we tried putting it back down for her, she still didn't want anything to do with it. The cat who will eat (just about) anything ate most of hers, but didn't clean the bowl which is what she usually does. She also didn't want the other cat's leftovers. Just a bit of a miss, unfortunately.

    Cats Love Duck

    By on

I’ve never really come across “Duck” as an option for cat food. As my cats love all Hound & Gatos wet foods , I decided to give it a try. The cats love it!! It has more sauce/gravy texture and that’s always a hit with the cats. They eat it up!
