Feeding Instructions

Adult: Feed 1 can per 6-8 lbs. of body weight per day.

Kittens: Require up to two and a half times this amount.

Gestation & Lactation: Allow free access to food. Adjust the amount of food you serve based on the age, size and activity level of your cat. Food should be fed at room temperature. Promptly refrigerate the unused portion. Fresh water should be available at all times.

Transition Instructions

If you are currently free-feeding a kibble, the first step is to feed your cat at meal times. Put the kibble down for a 20-30 minute time frame for a few days to help your cat recognize that this is feeding time. Yes, your cat will be hungry at these mealtimes if they have been used to grazing all day long, but this step will help in the transition.

Once these meal times are established, then try introducing canned food. Your cat will either like it and your transition took no time at all, or you may have to keep trying to entice the cat. If your cat will not eat the canned food you have offered, try putting some kibble on the top to entice the cat. If that doesn’t work, feed kibble and try a different protein at the next mealtime. It may take a while – a few day or a few weeks – for your cat to realize that this is food, but remember that you are doing it to better your cats health.

Havent tried just yet - Has good reviews

By Lindylou on May 22, 2021

I mentioned in a previous review that my kitty has IBD and refused to eat prescription diet food. I found this online recommended as a food good for kitties with that condition. I haven’t introduced this yet because he loved the Ziwi Peak Venison and that didn’t upset his tummy. Waiting awhile so as not to cause him any problems. I ordered two different foods hoping to find one he would like. Will write another review after trying this, thank you!

    VETERINARIAN IS SO PLEASED !!!

By love on Nov 12, 2020

Our 5 yr old rescue cat had Constant diarrhea . So sad - he would eat a few bites and run to the litter box . Our well loved Veterinarian suggested food elimination , changing protein, & an 8 month process of trying this & that . Final prognosis was Grim - Could run a series of bloodtesting ( at a Special clinic 4 1/2 hours from our home one way ) - or “ just enjoy what time you have left with him “ !!! Next veterinarian- “ not sure what is really wrong with your cat , but let me show you how to put his intestines BACK IN ... because this will likely happen & you may need to do this to save his life” !!!!!!!! Days of DETERMINATION & research on my own later - Hound & Gatos Duck/ liver Our 5 yr old rescue cat had Constant diarrhea . So sad - he would eat a few bites and run to the litter box . Cats didn't like it

By DomZ on Dec 4, 2020

Bought the flavor because they where out of stock with the turkey flavor. Had to switch back to instinct limited ingredient turkey just because instinct is more available in other stores. Did not want to be left with no food again. Chewy's did apologize for the inconvenience but failed to give me ample warning the turkey formula was out of stock.

    Too expensive

By Marie on Oct 12, 2020

When I first started buying this food it was around twenty to twenty-five dollars a case and that was just a few years ago and now it's doubled and too expensive for seven cats in my home. Many of us are on limited income due to illnesses and we want to feed our fur kids quality food but this food has just gotten too expensive. That is my only complaint. Would be nice for some of these companies would stop gouging with greed and make it easy for everyone to afford better food for their pets.

My two kitties don't care for this

    By Karen2222 on Jan 15, 2021

This food is quite soft and sticky. It's pretty similar in texture to the beef food, which they also dislike.

    Healthy ingredients and cat approved

    By Catmom on Aug 25, 2020 top250Contributor

This food has healthy ingredients and my cat likes it. Now that he’s an aged senior cat I’m getting more strict with foods for him. I asked this vendor to provide me the nutrient information on a dry matter basis and they did it immediately. No equivocation, no challenges - unlike others. I like the ingredients, I like the nutrient information, and I like the responsiveness of Hound & Gatos. And my boy likes the food.

    My Cat Likes It

By LindaB on Aug 3, 2020

If my cat likes it, then it is 5 stars for me. She has to eat a novel protein and difficult to find one she likes and doesn't bother her sensitive tummy. This food smells good, only wish it came in a gravy, that would be even better, but it does have alot of juiciness to it

Hound & Gatos: Cat Food Fine Dining

By fyryred on Feb 14, 2020

In spite of being on prescription food and metronidazole for IBD, our cat's vomiting and severe diarrhea kept getting worse. Days of online research led me to Hound & Gatos food at a specialty pet food store. After trying a few different Hound & Gatos proteins, my cat loved this Duck & Liver Formula Grain-Free canned cat food as well as the Hound & Gatos Gamebird flavor. Cricket has since had explatory surgery and the pathology confirmed IBD so she's on steroids and has put on a whole pound while eating Hound & Gatos canned food. The food looks and smells better than all other canned foods I've fed my cats. It's clear they're a company that cares about the quality of their products and how they affect my pets. Hound & Gatos is food I don't feel guilty feeding my cat. I can see the positive difference Hound & Gatos has made in my cat's coat and disposition. Cricket zooms around the house like a kitten and her coat is lustrous for a geriatric cat. Yes, the steroids have a huge impact on the IBD but in conjunction with pure, species appropriate food, Cricket's quality of life has done a 360. Thank you Chewy for carrying Hound & Gatos! … more
