For Adult cats, feed 1 can per 6 - 8 lbs. of body weight per day.
Kittens require up to 2 and a half times this amount. For pregnant and lactating females, allow free access to food. Adjust the amount of food you serve based on the age, size and activity level of your cat. Food should be fed at room temperature. Promptly refrigerate the unused portion.
If you are currently free-feeding a kibble, the first step is to feed your cat at meal times. Put the kibble down for a 20-30 minute time frame for a few days to help your cat recognize that this is feeding time. Yes, your cat will be hungry at these mealtimes if they have been used to grazing all day long, but this step will help in the transition.
Once these meal times are established, then try introducing canned food. Your cat will either like it and your transition took no time at all, or you may have to keep trying to entice the cat. If your cat will not eat the canned food you have offered, try putting some kibble on the top to entice the cat. If that doesn’t work, feed kibble and try a different protein at the next mealtime. It may take a while – a few day or a few weeks – for your cat to realize that this is food, but remember that you are doing it to better your cats health.
My cats really enjoy this flavor from Hound & Gatos. I trust the brand and appreciate that it is high quality animal protein with limited ingredients for my cats who have food intolerances.
This is my cats new favorite food. All 6 love it! Great ingredients and great quality. Will keep buying for our food rotation, once it's back in stock. Highly recommended!!!
This review isn’t about the quality of the food, because the ingredients are great, and when you open the can it looks like good quality food. I need to stop buying my cats food with quail in it. Must be an acquired taste. So far every brand of food I have tried that has quail my cats would rather starve than eat. I gave the remaining cans to my cousin and her two cats had no problem with the taste!
I bought this to replace BB Flatland Feast due to cost. Inside cats won't eat it, so, a fail. Relegated to the ferals. It is excellent quality food. I just have picky felines.
Since no one can keep her regular food in stock we're forced to play the "try new food" game every other week. Yet another dud that she absolutely refuses to eat, even when I think I'm being sneaky and mix a tiny bit with something she does like.
Great ingredients don’t really matter if the food is moldy and you have to throw it out.
She loves this one, and likes flavors to rotate! Not many suppliers have Hound & Gatos, please re-stock!
It’s been hard finding a food my IBD cat can tolerate. This has been the one that has her gaining weight and not vomiting. It is good consistency from case to case and the quality is good.
My one cat was having NOXIOUS poops. I tried her on all the sensitive tummy foods. She hated most, and there was no improvement. Then I switched her to a seafood one - slight improvement. Finally I looked at the ingredients and there’s the commonality: chicken. It’s in EVERYTHING. So here we are. 98% protein means there’s so little else to bother her tummy. I would have liked to also try rabbit, but so it goes. She loves this stuff and the salmon one. My home is no longer uninhabitable after she uses the litter box. Please stock up on more H&C, Chewy!
I was looking to add to my cats assortment of organic grain free food because sometimes the brands they normally eat are of stock . This brand met my requirements and my cats loved it !!! Ate it up ! So I will be adding this to their daily assortment!
