For Adult cats, feed 1 can per 6 - 8 lbs. of body weight per day. Kittens require up to 2 and a half times this amount. For pregnant and lactating females, allow free access to food. Adjust the amount of food you serve based on the age, size and activity level of your cat. Food should be fed at room temperature.
If you are currently free-feeding a kibble, the first step is to feed your cat at meal times. Put the kibble down for a 20-30 minute time frame for a few days to help your cat recognize that this is feeding time. Yes, your cat will be hungry at these mealtimes if they have been used to grazing all day long, but this step will help in the transition.
Once these meal times are established, then try introducing canned food. Your cat will either like it and your transition took no time at all, or you may have to keep trying to entice the cat. If your cat will not eat the canned food you have offered, try putting some kibble on the top to entice the cat. If that doesn’t work, feed kibble and try a different protein at the next mealtime. It may take a while – a few day or a few weeks – for your cat to realize that this is food, but remember that you are doing it to better your cats health.

I’ve tried to swap him to this food, mixing a small amount into his old food. He won’t touch any of it. I’ve tried for 7 days now and I’m just wasting food. He is not normally picky, so I’m not sure what it is about this food, but he really doesn’t like it.
When my cat was diagnosed with diabetes, we had to switch to a low carb wet food diet. We ran into the unique challenge of finding a canned food she would actually eat and wouldn't upset her sensitive stomach since she can't eat poultry due to her food sensitivities. Our girl has happily been eating Hounds & Gatos lamb and liver for over a month now and has even started to beg for her dinner. We never thought we'd convert our dry food addict and are so glad to have this option that's good for her diabetes as well. I've also had no issues with quality control and my last two shipments all have been good!
Decided to try a different brand of Lamb food for my guy with food allergies and he ate the first can and won't touch it again, same for my other kitty. I even tried mixing in another favorite to no avail. Guess I'll go back to feline naturals!
I got this after trying various other types of special "prescription" (AKA overpriced) Hydrolyzed Protein foods and watching them make my cat get worse. I switched to this. The first hurdle was getting both cats to eat it - I had relatively no problem clearing this hurdle. They aren't in love with the stuff, but they'll eat it if they're hungry, which is a good balance, in my opinion. The second hurdle is waiting 3 months to see if my cat's skin clears up - we're currently on our 3rd week and counting. So fingers are crossed and hopes are high. To be honest, though... I'm ecstatic at finding a reasonably priced wet food, isn't made from fish/chicken, and has virtually NO carbohydrates. My other cat has diabetes - so if this food works for both, that means I can start purchasing a single food for both cats again instead of specialty diets for each. HUGE time and money saver.
I never write reviews but I am hoping to help other cat owners and their fur babies. My cat has IBD and it has been months of trying everything under the sun and multiple vet visits. Hound and Gatos Lamb flavor has made a HUGE difference in my cats health. If your cat is having problems too, try this food. I never thought I would get so excited to see solid poop.
I usually by Ziwi cat food but all of it is out of stock. Tried this one and the 4 kitties liked it well enough but after a couple of cans 2 of my kitties started vomiting shortly after eating it. Thankfully Chewy refunded my purchase price. Great customer service! Thank you Chewy.
I have 3 cats. One of them will eat anything. Unfortunately none of my cats will eat this product.
The food seems to be good quality. The cats both likes the first cans. But about 80% of the cans are dented. This always makes me nervous. Do I toss the dented cans? Not sure.
My cat has been insulin dependent now for over one year. With the help of my vet, trying different foods and two types of insulin we have come to realize there is more than diabetes going on. Pica needed more than low glycemic food. He needed something with few ingredients, less irritating to his pancreas and I believe this formula is the closest we have come so far. No more unidentified aliens all over the wall, floor, outside of his emergency litter box. Glucose testing shows less extreme highs, and the best part...he really enjoys this food over the pricey prescription food. The Pate does have a thick peanut butter texture, but it slows his eating down and he often splits his meals into one small meal plus a snack which is perfect for a diabetic cat. Less between meal begging. Pica looks healthy for 12 years. Tons of energy to get into trouble still. Happy to find some food he likes that works for his multi health issues.
Chicken and beef causes my male cat to have diarrhea, yet he is so picky with his proteins. He surprised me when he liked this lamb recipe! But I am so happy to have found him a brand of food that will help with his sensitive stomach! No runny stools. Thank you!
