Every dog plays differently and, since not all toys are created equal, it’s always best to keep a close watch on your pup in case things get ruff. Supervised play will help toys last longer and most importantly keep your pal safe. No dog toy is truly indestructible, so always remove the toy from playtime if pieces begin to break off.
Hand wash and hang to dry.
First, let me start off by saying that my Frenchie (24#) loves this toy. However, we are on our 6th one because they just don't last. He's a power chewer and a thrasher and this just cannot take the punishment. I feel like these used to be a bit tougher a couple of years ago. Also, the cover seems very easy to take off. They redesigned the cover but he has figured out how to surgically remove the inner ball from the cover. It's quite remarkable really. In summary, we will continue to buy these because they are great rainy-day toys. For what they cost, I wish that they'd last longer.
I started getting the Hyper Pet for my Rat Terrier about 3 years ago. She absolutely loves this toy. So much so, that she has literally gone through 2 crabs, 6 doggie tails, 2 owls, and I just ordered 3 new doggie tails. This toy keeps her busy for a long time, off and on for hours. The new design is so much easier than the old one thanks to the new band to secure the tail and the active control ball inside. This is the best toy I have found for my dog.
My boy absolutely LOVED it fresh out of the wrapper... but after about 15 minutes of playing with it, the tail was ripped off and it stopped working. Other than ripping the tail off, he didn't throw it or chew the ball itself to break the components. After several attempts to get it working again it landed in the trash. Terribly disappointing for both my boy, who thought he had a new playment, and dog mom too :-(
The button for turning the toy on and off is cheap and doesn’t work. I had to mess with it for a while to get it to work. If your dogs playing with it it will turn on and off. The noise sounds like an injured dog, at first my dog was afraid of it, probably not the best thing to teach your pet to play with… the only reason I’m giving two stars is because when it worked my dog enjoyed playing with it and it kept him busy for a while. It didn’t last very long, he chewed through the fabric.
I bought this toy for my dogs to keep them entertained. As soon as I removed the plastic ribbon it turned on and made dog noises that my dogs loved. However, it lasted 10 seconds and couldn’t turn back on (even with new batteries). Chewy customer service was great and immediately sent me a replacement. It just arrived and the exact same thing happened. So either this toy is not user friendly (I can’t seem to figure it out) or it’s incredibly cheap. It’s too bad because I’m those 10 secs that it worked, the dogs loved it.
I ordered this it for my active puppy and was excited for him to play with it. He got about 3 minutes of fun but then it stopped working, we tried changing the batteries but it never worked again. Very disappointed in this toy. Would not buy it again.
My dog absolutely loved this but i went to change the batteries and it worked for 5 seconds and stopped working all together even after putting another set of new batteries in... havent even had it that long... so dissatisfied
A roomate of mine had this toy for her dog, and my dog was obsessed and always stole it. Once we moved away, I had to buy another one! She still loves it just as much as she first did. She is a Great Pyrenees mix, and she doesn't play with too many toys. This is a winner for her. The only thing I would caution is that it is heavy and may go flying if your dog likes to shake toys around in their mouth. Great toy though! Tip: You have to untwist the ball and press the lever to replace the batteries under the cover.
My usually playful 12 lb chihuahua gave it something between a disgusted and terrified look, then backed away. Obviously, this is not the right toy for her. It took me a little bit to figure out how it works, and frankly I don't blame her. It's too big, spastic as it quivers, and coarse textured. Not at all like the soft toys she religiously enjoys. Then I realized I will also be annoyed when it comes to figuring out if I can even replace the batteries. The design is not readily ergonomic. I'm not waiting to find out. Returning it!
Perhaps other dogs enjoy the sound of dog toys that bark and whine like a distressed animal, but my dog does not. He started stress panting as soon as we turned this on, and then fled to another room of the house with his tail down. We tried it several times, atetempting to show him that it was safe, and soemthing to play with, but he wanted nothing to do with it.
