Instinct Freeze-Dried Raw Meals are made with real, natural ingredients and never cooked, to retain the raw ingredients’ natural flavors, valuable antioxidants, amino acids, vitamins, and minerals. The Raw Difference

Unlike traditional, cooked pet foods, raw pet food retains more important antioxidants, amino acids, vitamins, and minerals that are key to helping your pet live a healthier life. Common changes noticed by pet parents who feed raw include better digestion, improved skin and coat, improved weight, relief from food sensitivities, and increased energy and vitality. Feeding as little as 20% raw as part of your pet’s diet can have a positive impact on your pet’s life.

Questions & Answers

6 Customer Questions

Can there be used as a training or high value treat or as a mixer to dogs current kibble instead of a meal?

Answer by ChewySep 13, 2022
This recipe is formulated as a complete and balanced diet and is not suitable as a treat or topper. Outside of the complete and balanced raw meal options, Instinct does have 100% raw toppers; these are intended for supplemental feeding and are not a complete and balanced meal on their own.

Is there ground bone in this recipe? Curious if there is sufficient calcium.

Answer by ChewyOct 27, 2020
This variety does not contain bone, iIt is made of 85% beef and organs with 15% fruits, vegetables, vitamins and minerals. This food contains approximately 2.62% Calcium content on a dry matter basis.

Is this approved for All Life Stages?

Answer by ChewyOct 14, 2020
Instinct® Raw Freeze-Dried Meals Real Beef Recipe is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for all life stages except for growth of large size dogs (70 lbs or more as an adult).

Can you tell me if this dog food is USA sourced?

Answer by ChewyMar 18, 2022
Instinct's nutritional philosophy is to source the highest quality, safest, and most nutritious ingredients possible. Instinct looks for their ingredients domestically first but sometimes turns to other locations when their ingredients are truly the better choice. For example, they started sourcing lamb from New Zealand because grass-fed lamb raised outside in large pastures is more abundant there.

Dave did not like the Instinct Raw Beef- it doesn’t have a smell to help attract him. I’m still looking for a food processed in ways to retain the nutrients- such as this. I tried adding warm water to soften ( doesn’t form a gravy) but he seems to not even recognize it as food. I’m giving 3 stars for the nutritional component-it’s in there, just need to work on getting it into the dog. Dave will pass on this.

Great for training--the 'kibbles' break up easily, no gross residue, don't reek, not a ton of expensive dust at the bottom of the bag, not crazy high calorie, and still very high value. I wouldn't feed this as a regular diet since I'm not comfortable with the lack of testing/history behind it but I am comfortable cutting further into my dogs' daily calorie allotment with these than normal treats since they're definitely more balanced. On paper they seem expensive but I can break each piece into 2-3 for training and given my use the larger bags work out as cheap or cheaper than pretty much any other freeze dried treats on the market.

I tried so many foods when I first got my rescue pup. Dry, wet, fresh, etc. The biggest problem was he would eat dry but very slowly and wasn’t getting enough nutrition. Wet and fresh he ate too slowly and I would end up throwing it out. Freeze Dried became the solution. I can leave it out and he can nibble through out the day and I don’t have to worry about it going bad ( I do not rehydrate as he didn’t like that). He still eats some dry as well but this goes first and he is now at a weight my vet is happy with.

Eager to eat!

My 3 dogs (and one is a picky diva eater) loved this food. I use dry kibble for training treats. For their meals, I add warm water to create some gravy.

Easy for travel

Both my dogs like this. I used to always get the frozen Instinct Raw but when traveling the freeze-dried is so much easier and it doesn't seem to matter to the boys

Looked appetizing

My dogs are extremely picky, but they both love it. I wish it wasn’t so expensive.
