What ingredients do you use that is from other countries including China?

All poultry comes from the U.S. . The vegetables and fruits are from the U.S. and Europe. Grains and starches are sourced from the U.S., Canada, and Brazil - herbs and spices from North America and Europe. Vitamins and minerals are from North America, Europe, and Asia. Instinct takes every step to source non-China ingredients where they can. They do not source any meat, poultry or fish from China. The kibble diets may contain minor ingredients (vitamins, trace nutrients) sourced from China to ensure supply is guaranteed.

Does this product contain GMO ingredients?

Instinct's raw recipes are made with non-GMO fruits and vegetables but cannot be classified as fully organic. To labeled as such, even the foods their proteins are fed must be certified organic, and they cannot 100% confirm each animal’s diet given the slight variances among suppliers.

Why does it say for all stages except large size puppies?

Large breed puppies have really specific nutrients since they grow so fast compared to other puppies. When a recipe is not complete and balanced diet for large breeds puppies, it's usually due to the calcium and phosphorus content in the food. The Instinct by Nature's Variety Raw Boost Large Breed Puppy Grain-Free Recipe with Real Chicken Dry Dog Food is a great option for large breed puppies.

What are the levels of calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus in this food? Also the salt content?

My dogs have been eating this brand for years. Decided to make my life easier and set up auto-ship so i’d stop having to run to the store every couple weeks. One dog ate from this bag a couple days before the other and started having diarrhea pretty immediately. Two days later, fed them both from the same bag and now both are having diarrhea and one is throwing up. They haven’t eaten anything aside from this food. The expiration date is printed for April of next year, 2026. At the time of this review it is May 2025. I’m not sure if it was mislabeled or not stored properly, but I will be back to shopping local for dog food in the future.

My Dog Loves Instinct Raw Boost Dry Dog Food!

Our Australian Shepherd can be a bit finicky about his food. We take his nutrition seriously, so finding the right ingredients that His Highness will like can be a challenge. Chai is more of a velcro Aussie, and not a very active one, so we are mindful about his fat, carbs, and grains intake. We love the natural and grain-free ingredients and the freeze dried raw chicken bits are fantastic (Chai tries to pick those out first, lol.)! A lot of other dry dog foods use fillers like corn and potatoes, but Instinct does not and cage-free chicken is the first ingredient! At this time, we are using Instinct as a part of Chai's diet, it makes up about 1/3 of his daily intake. This is for 2 reasons: 1 We enjoy making fresh food with chicken bones (cooked down to mush) and fresh vegetables as part of his daily diet, and 2 We have heard concerns about a raw diet for dogs. There seems to be a lot of mixed reviews about it. Our vet believes that Chai's diet is perfect for him, as his weight is good and he is in great health, overall. Chai has not experienced any digestive issues since we started adding Instinct to his daily diet. I like the sturdy bag, it does not break open and spill in the pantry. The zip-resealable bag is a win, the zip actually closes easily and tightly (a lot of "resealable" bags have weak zippers or gaps at the ends of the zip). The price can feel a little high, but we think the quality makes up for that, and this is not his only food. If you are considering a raw diet, definitely speak with your vet. Make sure you know your pet's allergies and sensitivities. Introduce new foods in small amounts that are increased over time. And consider raw as a supplement to your pet's diet, not the main source. (This is what our vet told us.) We would recommend Instinct!

As soon as I opened the package all my pets were immediately interested as they know this gave off raw food freeze dried aroma, in a good way. Both my pets wanted some but this is meant for dogs. My dog is is a 15lb sometimes picky eater and this was definitely a flavor which inspired excitement. There are two types of kibble, the lighter colored round ones which my dog selectively and hurriedly ate first then the brown kibbles. From how quickly she ate it I know it was completely delicious. I just hope it is as healthy as it is tasty! I am not an expert about analyzing pet food ingredients like some. For now this food looks like a winner. I will consider it again in the future.
