Questions & Answers

Do any of the ingredients come from China? I see it is "made in the USA" with ingredients from around the world. Where in the world?

Answer by ChewyAug 20, 2018
Instinct will source most of their ingredients from the U.S. and turn to other locations only as needed. All poultry, pork, and fish come from the U.S. (salmon meal from the U.S./Canada/Chile). Fish is fresh-caught from the Atlantic and Pacific. Beef and lamb are from the U.S., venison is from the U.S. and New Zealand, and rabbit is from France. The vegetables and fruits are from the U.S. and Europe depending on the ingredients. Grains and starches are sourced from the U.S., Canada, and Brazil - herbs and spices from North America and Europe. Vitamins and minerals are from North America, Europe, and Asia. The kibble diets may contain minor ingredients (vitamins, trace nutrients) sourced from China to ensure supply is guaranteed. Their approved supplier has put in measures to assure food safety and traceability from a trusted supply chain.

Is the rabbit meat free of antibiotics & growth hormones?

Answer by ChewyMar 21, 2024
Instinct's poultry, lamb, venison, rabbit, and pork are antibiotic-free with no added growth hormones. Due to the small number of cattle raised without antibiotics and hormones, it is not possible for Instinct to guarantee that the cattle have never been administered these drugs. However, all cattle must go through a required "withdrawal" period and are tested for residues prior to slaughter.

Why are there holes in the sides of the bag?

Answer by ChewyNov 18, 2019
A series of tiny holes strategically placed on the bag allows trapped air to escape the bag during the palletization process.

Does this product come in a resealable bag?

Answer by ChewyJan 15, 2019
All Instinct bags are resealable.

Poor packaging

My girls food arrived with a massive hole in the side of the bag. Normally this isn’t an issue.

Love what’s NOT in the food

My Bernedoodle developed allergies. So I had to search for a novel food that has limited ingredients. I tried a couple of different foods and he would NOT eat them

My Bernedoodle developed allergies. So I had to search for a novel food that has limited ingredients. I tried a couple of different foods and he would NOT eat them. I thankfully found Instinct Original Raw Rabbit formula on Chewy and Marley loves it. His itching has almost disappeared. Hopefully a few more weeks and it will be gone completely.

My dog did not like it.

We had our dog allergy tested because his skin looks awful, always biting his feet, his back, legs and belly stays red. Rabbit was the only meat he was not allergic

We had our dog allergy tested because his skin looks awful, always biting his feet, his back, legs and belly stays red. Rabbit was the only meat he was not allergic too. We tried different prescription diets and nothing helped. So I bought this because of the reviews and no chicken products in it. He won’t touch it. If I mix the canned rabbit meat in with the food he will eat it then but not by itself. And his legs look worse now than they did before he started this food.

Good for allergies

One of the best kibbles I’ve found for my husky/german shepherd with food allergies. I can’t afford to feed her raw rabbit food every day, but the instinct kibble

One of the best kibbles I’ve found for my husky/german shepherd with food allergies. I can’t afford to feed her raw rabbit food every day, but the instinct kibble is good as far as kibble goes. There is fish in it so make sure you’re aware of that. I do find that I need to add a little extra fiber to it (such as pumpkin, sweet potato, or psyllium husk) or it can make stools runny. Coat was shinier after feeding.
