I wished to use the pill form instead of compounded liquid because it can be cheaper when you have lots of cats to dose. Chewy's online resource (and others) dose itraconazole at 2.5 to 5 mg/lb. Each "100 mg" capsule could provide 2-4 doses for a 10 lb. cat. However, these capsules (marked as "100" and sold as 100 mg) only contain 50 mg!!! I weighed them all with a calibrated scale, from several orders across a few months in July-Sep 2022. The manufacturer, Ascend, did nothing. Chewy did absolutely nothing, blaming the manufacturer (if Chewy were to acknowledge the error). Caution for this and any prescriptions from Chewy!
After asking Chewy customer service/pharmacy rep to advise why their oral solution is 10mg/mL BUT this pill form intraconazole/generic says 100mL how much is dosing per kg/pet weight? No information is known by Chewy. So it makes me think Is the pill form actually 10mg NOT 100mL? Anyone know if this is a typo? Or are there 50lbs cats that take this high of a dose? My 10lb cat takes 10mL - I bet its a typo!!
Be aware this is not odor free. I bought two bags and both came with strong smell. But dog loves them.
