Georgia won't eat this food. For beginning the transition I put the JFFD in a separate bowl from her Stella & Chewy's freeze dried raw. She took two bites of the JFFD and then stopped. So I put her S&C on top of it. As she was eating the S&C she did ingest some of the JFFD. The next day half of her stool was a pale mint green, with a bright green blob (broccoli??). So not only did she not like it, her body didn't digest the small amount she ate. But the food itself is seems like a great option for dogs with hepatic diseases providing they like it and can digest it properly.
Just got in today and my dog refuses to eat. Any ideas on what I could add to make more appealing. I ordered because she can't have very much fat. Been serving her wholesome bowls. I tried mixing one of those with but she smelled of it and walked away. I boiled her a chicken breast because she hasn't eaten all day. She has gastrointestinal and IBS. She had major surgery and miracle she made it. Her gall bladder ruptured and bile duct tore and then she got peritonitis septic.
This company goes to great lengths to get these frozen items to your home safely. I was impressed with the packaging efforts. This item was recommended to me by a vet nutritionist expert due to multi-organ failure issues with my dog. I tried both the hepatic and renal formula choices. The care in formulating these diets is highly noteworthy. However, I quickly ran into problems. The hepatic formula seemed to be a better recipe for smell and taste over their renal diet, which I thought was unpleasantly smelly. However, my sick puppy quickly ran out of interest in eating even this formula after about 3 days. And this was still better than her reaction to the renal formula. I could not even interest my other two, healthy, dogs into eating these foods either. So I am left with a bunch of frozen packets in the freezer with no clear idea of what to do them now. I wish this company arranged to have an option for a sample selection so pet parents could try it out with a small quantity first to see if their animal will tolerate it before having to commit to buying a larger supply. This stuff is expensive and when your pet is very sick, you are desperate to try out anything to help them. All the experimentation to find a food source that "works" with your sick baby is very hard on the wallet while the clock is ticking away as your animal stops eating another vet-approved diet. Can you, dear company, please consider offering a sample size package to help here before we pay so much only to have to toss it when it doesn't "work" taste-wise?
My dog has multiple liver shunts and I have to be extremely careful of what he eats. He’s always had to be on prescription canned food and this has finally given me a healthier, fresher option. He’s also very picky but he loves this food! Since starting him on it I have seen increased energy, better liver function and coat vitality!
When I found out my dog needed to go on a Kidney Support diet, my first reaction was that all of those are low grade food, not what an ailing dog needs. Yes, the food might be low protein and low phosphorous, but low nutrition as well. When I started researching for a few alternative, I was thrilled to find Just Food For Dogs and that it was sold at Chewy. My dog loves it, transitioned right away from her previous raw diet, and is doing very well.
Chewy is the BEST in customer care and pet care. Their staff is outstanding in empathy and compassion as well as helpful and knowledgeable about their products. I cant thank them enough for all theyve done for me and my dogs.
I have a miniature schnauzer who had liver issues since she was 5 or 6 - for few years before starting JustFoodForDogs. She was on prescription diet from both Hills (L/D) and Royal Canin (Hepatic). Once she starter on this frozen food the dramatic improvement was obvious - her coat was shiny, her energy level increased, she was just happier all together and she LOVED the way it taste. She's almost 15 now and unfortunately we have to switch her to different diet due to chronic pancreatitis and issue with kidneys. But I do highly recommend hepatic just food for dogs - it wa a life changer and worth every penny!
My 12-year-old toy poodle was diagnosed with chronic hepatitis due to copper toxicity from pet foods. After bloodwork, an ultrasound to rule out a mass, an ER visit because her liver enzymes were very high, more bloodwork, surgery, biopsies, we discovered the copper toxicity, which scarred her liver. She was on a medication for a long time to pull the copper out of her liver. I continued to do my research to find a low fat, hepatic diet so we could discontinue the medication. Unfortunately, there are not many hepatic pet food diets. My poodle is a very finicky eater, and she loves the JustFoodForDogs Hepatic Support Low Fat Diet! After a slow transition, we were able to discontinue the medication. However, she continues to take three other lifetime medications and supplements to support her liver. I am very thankful for the frozen, fresh hepatic diet, and I have not experienced any problems with deliveries. I highly recommend doing business with Chewy. They have excellent customer service, and they stand behind their products. If there is a problem, they make it right by refunding your money or resending a new product.
Freckles likes it warmed up just a tidbit, and she is looking and acting spunky again. We are only using it as part of a new low protein, low fat diet, but I am liking what I see!
My dogs have been eating this for almost a years. We are on autoship. 3 times, the food did not look right. It was very orange and the rice was hard. It upset by dogs stomachs. Normally they love it and the food looks good but it is a concern that sometimes the food looks different and the texture is different. Also a few times the pouches were not frozen solid.
