If your clinic needs more information from you or recommends a different diet, well let you know immediately.
Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarians authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarians authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state?
Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarians authorization?
Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pets health while they are on the diet.
Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but well need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pets owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pets records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before theyd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills?
Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. Well automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, well automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.
What if I have more questions? How can I reach the veterinary diets team at Chewy?
Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com, start a chat on Chewy.com, or call us anytime at 1-800-672-4399. Were here for you 24/7.

I have a miniature schnauzer who had liver issues since she was 5 or 6 - for few years before starting JustFoodForDogs. She was on prescription diet from both Hills (L/D) and Royal Canin (Hepatic). Once she starter on this frozen food the dramatic improvement was obvious - her coat was shiny, her energy level increased, she was just happier all together and she LOVED the way it taste. She's almost 15 now and unfortunately we have to switch her to different diet due to chronic pancreatitis and issue with kidneys. But I do highly recommend hepatic just food for dogs - it wa a life changer and worth every penny!
My 12-year-old toy poodle was diagnosed with chronic hepatitis due to copper toxicity from pet foods. After bloodwork, an ultrasound to rule out a mass, an ER visit because her liver enzymes were very high, more bloodwork, surgery, biopsies, we discovered the copper toxicity, which scarred her liver. She was on a medication for a long time to pull the copper out of her liver. I continued to do my research to find a low fat, hepatic diet so we could discontinue the medication. Unfortunately, there are not many hepatic pet food diets. My poodle is a very finicky eater, and she loves the JustFoodForDogs Hepatic Support Low Fat Diet! After a slow transition, we were able to discontinue the medication. However, she continues to take three other lifetime medications and supplements to support her liver. I am very thankful for the frozen, fresh hepatic diet, and I have not experienced any problems with deliveries. I highly recommend doing business with Chewy. They have excellent customer service, and they stand behind their products. If there is a problem, they make it right by refunding your money or resending a new product.
My tiny little girl (less than 4 pounds now) has lost almost half her body weight over the past couple of years. Finally we got a diagnosis of liver failure. Not happy about the illness but am very happy to find out why she’s been failing to thrive! Been trying all kinds of GI diets over the past couple of years and nothing was anything she would eat much of. Until I tried this hepatic diet food. She LOVES this food better than anything she’s ever eaten. We are happy she’s on her way back to a healthier state of living again. THANK YOU for producing the food & thanks for carrying it in your online store Chewy!!! I finally have hope again that she will gain some weight back!
My dog is a Chorkie (Chihuahua and Yorkie mix) and he's very small and boney he's a little guy at 6-7 pounds. He was originally eating canned food which was fine but then he started throwing up every few days changed to hard food same thing. I gave him rice and chicken for a while but then that didn't work and he got so bad in the middle of the night he threw up and got really dehydrated he couldn't stand I thought he was dying. Took him to emergency and to the vet for tests and his Liver levels were abnormal showing possible liver disease. Ever since I switched him to this stuff, he's stopped throwing up and his poops aren't diarrhea like they are hard normal poops and he's not constipated anymore! His poop has a little discoloration like yellow spots from the food and his breath stinks lol but other than that this stuff he can hold down and it saved his life. Went back to the vet and they did a blood test and his liver levels are 100% back to normal. Keeping him on this stuff for life.
My dog is on a hepatic diet and does enjoy the just for dogs hepatic food although I wish they would put less carrots/sweet potatoes because she spits them out and it seems to be a large amount of carrots sweet potatoes that they are putting in these this food.
I purchased this food for my Labradors. ( Labs eat anything) Wrong... they wouldn't touch it after the first meal. It was frozen or had ice crystals in it when it arrived so it was in good shape.
I never write reviews, but this time, being a second time I've had issues, I must. This product MUST remain frozen due to contents. My Ivy is on this food and it's helping alot, but I am ordering in the future directly from "Just Food For Dogs". Why? It's always frozen with Dry Ice. With Chewy, the Dry Ice is gone and the packages are totally defrosted which means they are to be trashed. The interior of box isn't even cold as the Dry Ice had long since melted in transit. I'm very disappointed as Chewy usual is on the ball. Granted I rec'd a refund, but I assure you I will order elsewhere from this point on, I schedule re-orders timely as she can not eat any other product due to her health and when I order with 4-5 packet remaining only to find my purchase is useless? Not good, Chewy. Shame on you!
I ordered this for my 15+ old Chiweenie that has liver disease. I thought for sure she would love this food. She ate it twice, and she won't eat it anymore. It's mostly rice of which she leaves most of in the bottom of her bowl.
I love the product, but when it got to my house the product wasn't fully frozen. there was no cold packing material in the box.
I first purchased this food for my 9 year old Cavalier Jazmine as she had been very sick and the vets thought she had issues with her kidneys. I As I feed a modified home cooked meals to both my girls, I researched on line and was impressed with this company. I placed a small order of 7 pouches and received it in a few days. I fed it to both my Cavaliers as my other girl has liver and intestinal disease as part of their diet. They both liked the food and over the next few weeks so I placed a large order thinking my Jazmine would be ok. The order arrived the same day I got the diagnosis that Jazmine had terminal liver cancer that had spread. Exactly one week later on November 20th, 2021 she lost her battle. I now had a freezer full of this food, so I have continued to feed it to my Lena and placed another order recently from Chewy once I was running low as they carry it now. I got great service on the phone and quick delivery and will continue feeding this diet as long as Lena is with me. This food is the same quality as if I made it myself. There are a number of different foods that are available in addition to the vet diets. Both Just Food For Dogs and Chewy are both quality companies that I highly recommend.
