I opened at least 7 boxes and took lots more pics than what I can upload here. The food had dark greyish areas, white smears and yellow goo on it. The boxes I opened a few days ago were worse. I took these pics for this review after trying to get a Chewy rep to pull their stock and check it out.

This was a vet suggested diet change as our 14 year old has marginal kidney issues. He was not loving his kibble so I found the renal support formula and figured we'd give it a try. We are still mixing it with a small amount of kibble to supplement. He cleans the bowl every night. If he enjoys it that's all we care about. I just wish it wasn't so expensive.

Disappointed, rice so tough and uncooked

Most dogs with kidney disease are older so I would think the ingredients/cooking would be "senior dog" friendly as well. But no. It was packed with uncooked rice

Most dogs with kidney disease are older so I would think the ingredients/cooking would be "senior dog" friendly as well. But no. It was packed with uncooked rice that my dog ended up throwing up undigested. We tried to recook it, but it still didn't work. Mushier, softer the better for senior dogs with kidney disease. Now stuck with 11 packs...

Good reviews

Bell ate it once and doesn’t want it any more. Guess it all has to do with the pickiness of kidney disease

Unfortunately Penny had a pretty immediate allergic reaction to eating this. We were up all night with her chewing her butt and hind legs. The food seems super high quality and she liked the taste, but I really wish there were an option to sample these foods when you have a super sensitive as well as picky dog.

This stinks. My dog turned her nose up at it. She loves the chicken and rice but bc of kidney disease isn’t allowed to eat it. This formula smells like fermented cabbage. I think it stinks and apparently so does my dog. She won’t eat it unless it’s left out all day and there’s nothing else but it’s like she’s miserable. I tried the hepatic support which my vet said is ok so I mix it with Hills chicken pate which isn’t so healthy ingredient wise but she has to eat and is losing weight. Very frustrating bc it’s all so expensive.

First - we love Just Food For Dogs (JFFD) products! For several years now, I have been mixing the tetra packs (fav cuz steamed in the packs) with homemade for my wet-nose menagerie. But one sweet elder big-eyed pooch suddenly developed a corneal ulcer which led to the discovery of Cushings and on ultrasound - polycystic kidneys! Although asymptomatic (except the corneal perforation), his BUN & creatinine was on the rise so my Vet wanted me to switch to a commercial renal diet - sweet pooch wouldn’t touch after a few nibbles. Commercial renal food is full of chemicals and sub-par proteins and smells horrid! Threw it out and convinced my Vet to script JFFD Renal & Hepatic Support. JFFD support diets contain lower amounts of high quality proteins that I mix with just a bit of homemade and the bowl is licked clean! I am not a proponent of low protein diets - thus a controlled add of homemade. But there is a fine line to managing kidney disease and maintaining optimum health - every pooch is different! I am also giving Azodyl probiotic to help filter urea wastes in the intestines and take some load off the kidneys. I like to batch homemade food because I can control the ingredients, ensure organic (pesticide/hormone free) and steam to protect nutrients. JFFD is next best to homemade for me! Consistent quality. We give 5 paws up to both the Renal and Hepatic Support diets for quality proteins, nutritional value, texture (mix in a little water for a broth), palatability and digestibility!
