Very happy with this purchase! We normally buy Oxbow hay for our pigs, their 9 pound box is amazing! But with just moving into our new house we went a little cheaper. Smells amazing and fresh! Does seem like on the sides of the bag it looks a little “dusty” if that makes sense and smaller pieces. But none the less our pigs loved it!

Opened the bag and the hay had a bad smell to it. Most of the hay was brown, there where a lot cuts less then an inch long (looked like scraps). For a first cut there was a very small amount of seed heads. Lots of dust. My guinea pigs would not even taste it, smelled it sneezed and started looking for something else to eat. This bag looks like it was what was left on the floor after the good stuff was gone.
Worse bag of hay

I’ve been using chewy for a while now and I get my guinea pigs hay and I have auto ship on for it. The last three shipments I have gotten we have had to throw out because there was more dust then pieces and the hay just looked so old and did not smell right. I understand maybe one bad shipment of hay but three?
HEADS UP PEOPLE

I’ve been feeding my piggies this hay for a long while because Oxbow is more expensive. The past bags have been fine and the piggies love it however this bag I got included a furry spider. I’m not joking. I opened the bag as usual and grabbed some hay out to put into my guinea pig’s kitchen when a spider just crawled out of the handful of hay I was holding and was crawling around in Cookie’s cage. I had to run to the kitchen to grab a cup and throw the spider into the garden. The rest of the bag was okay but that experience made me switch to Oxbow. If you’re fine with a bit of dusty hay along with spiders, then I recommend this for you but if not, then you’ll be better off with Oxbow
Not first cut hay

This hay has a very small cut, not first cut. Not even good for bedding. Very disappointed.

This small animal hay comes to you as fresh as a summer day in the field! Before you ever touch the hay, you can smell the quality!
You can't beat the price! Add gas and "box store" or specialty store prices, this is by far the best value!
Delivery times are excellent! I never have to wait more than two days for this to show up at the door!
Worst bag ever

I keep this on auto ship and have always been satisfied I just recieved my latest shipment and it was pretty much pieces and shake alot of brown it it also. It was so dusty I had to shake it out in a box until I got some actual green hay pieces I didn't want my piggies to breathe it in and they have just been picking. Looks like an extra trip to the pet store. I will definitely be switching to something different.
Too much packaging

The hay itself was of good quality, but each bag was packed in its own box, and these were then packed in another box, so there were a lot of boxes to break down and recycle.
You get what you get....

My guinea pig loves the tufts and has always enjoyed the kaytee hay so I get this first cut so he gets lots of those. Some bags are awesome - nice green color, lots of tufts, large blades; others are not so great - still typically lots of tufts but a lighter green and more small cuts and dust. What ultimately seems to happen is that the bottom of the bag accumulates most of the small pieces and dust and so end up in our compost bin. I don't mind that so much - just wish it were consistently fresh across bags.
Timothy Hay first Cut a disappointment
on Feb 21, 2021
We thought that paying more for Timothy Hay First Cut would provide an improved product, but actually the reverse. The bag we just opened contains more ground up hay (which our 5 guinea pigs dislike)and we end up throwing part of the bag out. We are on automatic ordering and will minimally adjust or eliminate the automatic.
