    Cord is SHORT!!

By DrLove on Dec 21, 2020

Cord is very short. I bought a box (connection protector) and a super duty multi-outlet extension cord for this Deicer. The box sits on the ground and so it will not reach up to the bird bath with the Deicer's ridiculously short cord. Why doesn't this item come with a longer cord to accommodate the necessary extension cord? The connection is going to be dangling right off the bird bath, exposed to the harsh elements. Now I either need a different Deicer, with a longer cord, or an additional connecting extension cord with an additional connection protector. Who makes this garbage? Bird-brained inventing. Actually, that's an insult to birds. Sorry bird friends, you'll have to wait another Cord is very short. Best price for a great product

By annie on Dec 7, 2020

I shopped around and chewy had the best price. I have gotten many k&h products from chewy over the years, the products always hold up over time. I just got a bird bath over the summer and out a solar fountain in it to keep water moving. But in michigan old man winter will put a quick end to all that. I read that birds need water more so in the winter in cold climates for drinking or coarse but also for bathing. It's December here and the birds diffently use the bird bath. The temps have been below freezing and the bath is unfrozen and the solar fountain moving. I really like that it only turns on when needed, temperature control thermostat is the way to go, great power saver. I will get another I shopped around and chewy had the best price. The cord was a bit coiled up and the base wanted to keep turn on its side. I put a small rock on it to hold it down until the cord was use to the new position, just a few days. Now the base stays in place. … more

    Works well so far

By TheTobster on Jan 11, 2021

I bought this to go in a water fountain so I could use it in the wintertime too. So far it is working with temps in the 20"s. As other reviewers mentioned the cord is somewhat short so keep that in mind. Also it is a bit lightweight being aluminum so I placed a glass paper weight on it to keep it under the water. I have only used it a bout a week and hope it lasts a long time!

Birds and other wild life in my yard are happy

By Kate on Jan 6, 2021

I have had one of these in the past - as a self contained unit. I like this better since it goes in a container I have been using and the critters are used to it. Just had to move it because of the extension cord length. My only frustration was getting it to set right side up. Mine want to rest upside down - any suggestions?

    EXCELLENT FOR BIRDS

By Hope on Dec 19, 2020

This is my 3rd year using this birdbath de icer and I could not be any more satisfied ! It works perfectly all winter long ! My birds, raccoons, deer, squirrels, and neighborhood cats are very happy with being able to have access to fresh water no matter how cold it gets. I use a heavy duty outdoor extension cord and everything works great ! I highly recommend this item !!

    Does the job!

By Merc on Dec 16, 2020

As someone else mentioned the cord is very short, but I didnt find another model that was any different so just attached a short extension cord. Its 0 degrees here at night and the water stays fluid. In the morning the deer and birds come to drink. Happy I can provide them water where there otherwise is none. Also did have to put a rock on the unit to hold it down

    So far, so good!

By Planet on Jan 6, 2021

Has been keeping our birdbath ice-free. Birds and squirrels are enjoying. I wish the cord were a wee bit longer, as it is stiff and tends to sit a bit awkwardly in the birdbath, but otherwise, quite happy.

    Cord sucks

By Cindy on Dec 25, 2020

This item works, but the cord is too short. If you hook-up to extension cord then deicer will not stay in bird bath. Why can't cord be longer???

    DON'T BUY THIS!

    By TCubs23 on Nov 17, 2020

The cord is ONLY 18" long and you should not plug it in to an extension cord. Whose birdbath is right next to their outdoor outlet. I'd say one in a billion! Birdbaths are typically higher than 18" to begin with.
