What if the cat buries their urine in the sand? Is it still easy to collect?

Sometimes, cats like to dig around their litter before or after urinating. Even if the urine is completely covered by the sand, the sample can still be extracted just by moving the sand aside and using the provided pipette.

As the sand is hydrophobic, the urine will puddle up in multiple locations. The sample should be taken from a puddle that has not come in contact with the stool if possible.

Unfortunately didn't work

Nothing wrong with the product itself but my cat would not touch it. The bags are small so I used all 3. She didn't go to the bathroom for over 15 hours so I gave

Nothing wrong with the product itself but my cat would not touch it. The bags are small so I used all 3. She didn't go to the bathroom for over 15 hours so I gave up and put her regular litter in. Then I tried just sprinkling a tiny bit of this over her regular litter just to get her used to it and same thing refused to go to the bathroom for over half a day. My cat just will not use this product.

Didn't work for my cat

I needed a urine sample for the vet and I tried to use this but they give you a very small amount of litter and it barely covered the bottom of a big litter box

I needed a urine sample for the vet and I tried to use this but they give you a very small amount of litter and it barely covered the bottom of a big litter box. My cat also refused to use this so I ended up having to catch the urine myself in his regular litter. I do like how they include a syringe and vial.

Saved a stressful day at the vet!

My kitty has a habit of peeing on the way to the vet, so to get a urine sample, I was going to need to drive him there in the morning and leave him all day to see

My kitty has a habit of peeing on the way to the vet, so to get a urine sample, I was going to need to drive him there in the morning and leave him all day to see if they could collect. I thought I’d try this first to save him the anxiety. I didn’t even need to confine him! I put it in a new stainless box and within an hour, he checked it out and made a deposit! I missed that there are 3 sets, this is great I’ll have it on hand next time I need it. Yes one bag of sand is very little to put in the box, but my kitty didn’t mind.

Works great!

I love the sand the cats think it’s litter and easily use it. The syringe is handy. I have a hard time closing the test tube so just been using specimen cups instead

Needed to get a urine sample but nothing in bladder while at the ERVet Hospital. I had no idea urine collection kits were on the market. I went to chewy app and found this kit, to my surprise. I should have read the directions first and used all 3 Bags of sand. It wound have been easier for Jade to pee and easier to collect urine. Urine on sand did pool for easy collection. But the rest was all over the litter pan. If I read the directions and not assumed. The 3 bags would have contained the urine. I will know better in the future if needed. I’m keeping an extra kit on hand, just Incase its needed.

Works but wish more sand was included

Based on my experience I wished the vials could stand up (no round bottoms) and more crucially there was more sand per kit as the other comments have mentioned!

Based on my experience I wished the vials could stand up (no round bottoms) and more crucially there was more sand per kit as the other comments have mentioned! I bought two sets, and needed to use 5 bags (so almost the entirety of the two sets of 3 bags each) to be able to cover my cat's large stainless steel pan thinly. She is picky about her toilet situation and will only go if it's a large litter-covered area. Emptied and cleaned her only litterbox the night before her morning urine, poured in the 5 bags, and waited for her digging sounds. Luckily I'm a light sleeper. At 4:30am I heard her exit the bathroom, I got up and immediately got to work. My cat loves to bury her waste completely so I was worried I couldn't get much, but I was able to use a clean plastic spoon to coax the sand away from the edges and suck up even the tiny droplets of pee. I collected enough for 8 mL of a sample (one pipette is about 0.5 mL based on when I practiced with water and measured its capacity with a syringe). I didn't use the provided vials because my vet gave me a larger pee cup that felt more secure. Even though the pipettes are small I like that they ensure you have fewer chances of sucking up sand. Stuck the sample in the fridge and brought it to the vet a few hours later when they opened. Sample was all normal except for struvites. I'm buying this again for my cat's repeat sample in a month to see if her new Rx diet works.

Terrible product and overpriced

The three packets is misleading. I emptied two packets into the clean litter box and it didn’t cover the bottom. And my cat wouldn’t use it. He preferred to poop

The three packets is misleading. I emptied two packets into the clean litter box and it didn’t cover the bottom. And my cat wouldn’t use it. He preferred to poop outside the litter box and peed on a blanket rather than use the litter box with this product. I had covered his other litter box with the intention of that forcing him to use the litter box with this product. Fails all around.

My vet suggested that I purchase this product to determine if there was excess protein in her urine. It took a bit of an effort to change the litter box. It took another few hours to convince her that an inch of litter was okay. Nature won out. Urine was collected as per detailed instructions. Saved me quite a bit of $$$ for extra vet fees.
