Should have read the reviews first!
I didn't think to look at the reviews before purchasing a water bottle for my rat enclosure. Boy, do I regret that. This water bottle drained completely twice in the enclosure. I had to change the bedding out both times.
fixing leaks
Goodness, if I threw away every water bottle I’ve had that leaked I would be buying new ones every week. I gave up on the Lixit water bottle with the spout sticking straight down, but I’ve always had good luck with these that are a more conventional water-bottle shape. To avoid leaks, take these steps when you set up your water bottle and every time you refill it: - Rinse thoroughly, shake vigorously with water inside, make sure that anything visible inside is rinsed away. - Rub a finger over the rubber seal at the mouth and rinse repeatedly, make sure that there is nothing stuck to the seal. - Shake the metal tip and make sure that the ball-bearings are moving freely. Run water into the tip from both ends and shake it to circulate water around the ball-bearings. Also, changes in temperature can cause pressures changes that will cause the bottle to leak. I usually turn it upside down and shake lightly right before putting it in the cage. This is to make sure that the pressure inside and outside the water bottle is the same. If there is a big temperature difference, set the water bottle upside-down in the area where it will be used until it is the same temperature as the surroundings. I assume that people would notice if the tip of the water bottle is in contact with the bedding in the cage, but since that’s the problem that causes most of our leaks, I’ll go ahead and mention that, too.
Lixit water bottles
These can get expensive to buy. Unfortunately because of black growth inside of the bottle, these bottles need to be changed quite often. I wish there was a way to not have the growth issue inside & the small mouth doesn't allow bottle brushes to be used to clean it.
The water line marker is small.
One needs to be careful when emptying and refilling. That sm marker comes out, making it easy to lose.
Leaks! Do not waste your money
I should of listened to the other reviews. Leaks terribly. Tried a few times, just trash.
Awful it Leaks constantly
I got this and the first night it flooded the cage! Constant dripping! If i could give it zero stars I would.

leaked everywhere
Both bottles leaked all over my guinea pigs cage and I just got them today. I’m extremely disappointed and I’ll be returning them smh. Don’t waste your time and money
Does not hold water
Leaks all the water out in 10 min. I repositioned it 5x filled to different levels still leaks all over . Not I good bottle
