Does this have to be given on an empty stomach? I have been sprinkling over his meals. His liver recheck is in 10 days and I just read somewhere it needs to be given on an empty tummy..I hope I haven't been doing it wrong?
Answer by ChewyJun 13, 2019
This supplement is recommended to be administered with food.

Does the powder have a flavor that when put on their food is overwhelming and dog won't eat. Can I mix the 1/2 scoop with water put in a dog feeding syringe and feed it?
Answer by ChewyNov 10, 2017
This item does not contain any artificial flavors, so it has natural flavor. The taste is mild and most pets enjoy it. It is recommended this be administered and mixed with food.

Does this need to be given on an empty stomach 1 hour before a meal?
Answer by ChewyJun 16, 2019
This supplement can be feed with or without food.

Does this have to be refrigerated after opening? If so, I have had it for 3 weeks and not refrigerated. Is it ok to still feed it?
Answer by ChewyMay 15, 2019
It's recommended to store this supplement in a cool dry place to ensure the freshness and effectiveness of the ingredients. It is not strictly necessary to keep it in the fridge after opening but we generally recommend doing so as this is the best way to ensure these conditions are met.

No more pill

My vet prescribed Denamarin for my dog when elevated liver enzymes showed up on his yearly blood work. However, he wouldn't take the pill in a treat or pill pocket and I hated having to pill him. MaxxiSame was the answer. It can be sprinkled on food and eaten with his meals; or do what I do and mix it with chicken baby food and it becomes a special treat. No problems now getting him to eat it. Please note; the directions and figuring out the product strength can be a little confusing so read the package info very carefully if you are using it in place of the denamarin pills (you will also need to purchase the milk thistle separately as that is in the pills but not in the maxxiSame ). Highly recommend this product if you don't like pilling your dog.

Brought liver levels down!

Tried this after our dog’s bloodwork came back with very high liver levels. MaxxiSAMe brought levels back to acceptable range in under two mo the. They’ve stayed in a good place for the past two years with continuous use, even while taking rimadyl. Our boy can’t take pills so this a good alternative. He doesn’t seem to notice the powder in his food.

Worked perfect but

My 18 year old cat was having explosive diarrhea. He has elevated liver enzymes but not severely. This stuff worked 100% on the diarrhea. The SAMe makes him sleep all the time. I took him off this for two weeks and he was active and still no diarrhea. After that the diarrhea is back. I'll have to start this back up but I wish there was something similar to this that would work and not knock him out. Please reply if you have an idea. This is also made for cats. Thanks

Pretty Good

This stuff smells bad but it's easier than getting my dog to swallow a Denamarin tablet. Plus it's got B vitamins you're supposed to give with SAM-e whereas Denamarin does not. Add some Milk Thistle extract and you've basically got Denamarin that you can put on their food instead of trying to force a giant horse pill on them.

Hard to get dog to eat it

Even though the ingredients look great, it’s hard to get my dog to eat this even if I put it on top of his food

So easy to use!

I will only purchase my pet medical and nutritional supplies from CHEWY! I'm confident in their products and their service is great. I previously purchased a sAME product in pill form that was not usable for a small dog. I now use the powdered sAME product and very satisfied that I am giving the right dose ( includes a small scooper). Order arrived timely and packaged well. Price is competitive.

Thank goodness

Since we have been giving our Older Pup SAMe, his eyes are clearing up, he is getting better about his moods and aggression. Plus he is a bit more mobile and playful.

Great product

It’s only been a couple weeks, but definitely see a difference. She’s much calmer and hoping it’ll make a difference in her next blood tests!

Like a Different Dog

My 13-year-old Doberman had been showing signs of Canine Cognitive Dysfunction. Depressed, less active, no longer excited to see us, confused, vocal, etc. After adding this, it's like she's years younger. She's trotting through the house to meet us again, obviously happier, playing with the other dogs more, and even hopping when she's excited (which hadn't happened in months.) She is 60lbs and uses one can a month (2 scoops a day) so it's a bit spendy, but it's 100% worth it. We ran out and didn't have it for about 2 weeks and there was an obvious decline in her mood and energy, which improved after she was back on this for almost a week.

Questionable Value

I have been looking for a liver supplement that is easy to administer. This appears to be the answer. I am concerned about the value of this product. It is relatively expensive and the dosage size for my dog is 1/3 scoop, twice per day with food. So, a 20 pound dog requires 2/3 scoop per day. I'm thinking that this is close to a standard dosage. A more useful scoop could be included. Price is still under review and whether it is worth the cost.
