This item is a lifesaver and much safer than a plastic bag tied around a dog’s cast. The rubber boot prevents slips. But the Velcro strap near the foot barely reaches the Velcro part. A cast on a dog’s leg isn’t tapered but it’s the same diameter at the top of the leg and the bottom. The bottom Velcro strap needs to be about 1-1/2” longer.
This works fabulously for our golden retriever who has a broken toe on her back leg. Vet instructed us to only let her outside for brief potty breaks, and to then use an improvised IV bag over her bandage as it absolutely needs to be kept clean and dry. Our poor girl was going stir crazy being so restricted, and with an estimated 12 week recovery time this seemed unsustainable. Then I found this boot. It completely protects the bandage and allows us to take our pup outside and for short walks. She seems very comfortable in the boot and walks almost completely normally with it on. The velcro straps keep it on nice and tight, and the rubber sole allows for easy movement on both grass and pavement. Our high-energy girl is SO much happier now that she gets at least a little exercise. Also- during our weekly bandage changes, the vet has remarked how great everything looks, and that we are obviously following her restrictions to a T. This boot is worth every penny!
Very pleased with the quality and fit. My pup had extensive surgery on his foot and my surgeons biggest concern was how we were going to keep his paw clean and dry for a few weeks as he works every day at our farm/garden center. This boot fits true to size and is very comfortable too. The added rubber tread allows my dog to move safely in our fields and absolutely keeps the bandage dry and clean. It also keeps him from going after the bandage. The entire staff at the veterinarians office was equally impressed and will be letting other patients know about this.
The boots great, love the tread on the sole. I had received one from the vet, and it didn’t have the tread. This is much suitable for all weather.
I have had to order many of these for my dog who is knuckling and the pad size isn’t consistent. Other than that, the rugged is much better and lasts longer.
I got the 2 smallest sizes for my little 8lb dog with a broken toe. Dr. preferred thick bandaging. They looked great, but not for this time. Instead of returning them I called Whatcom Humane Society who uses them for cats and small dogs and were thrilled to get them. They appeared to be great quality.
This boot worked perfectly to protect a front leg splint for our GS. He needed something that was both water proof and breathable. This is so much better than plastic wrap and IV bags. This was an absolute game changer. Our one year old GS weighs 70lbs and the medium fit well!
I ordered the wrong size boot for my lab. Chewy responded quickly to my inquiry and resolved the matter above my expectations.
After just 2 days of only daytime use, the white waterproof coating inside behind the velcro strap rubbed off. So it is no longer waterproof. But it keeps our dog from chewing on it, mostly. Not as breathable as we were hoping either. It makes our dogs leg very warm and moist. Elastic pull broke day one, so that part was worthless. Hard to find anything for a 150lb dog, so we were hopeful with the expensive price. Sadly, disappointed.
I have a 165lb rottie who has huge paws (4"). I originally ordered the XL which was huge - it looks like it can fit a horse's hoof. I ordered a M which was also too long and too wide and his foot floated in there. I ordered a S which ended up being too short (front to back) but the width was perfect. Unfortunately I am unable to use any of them but chewy was great in refunding me for the first 2.
