My senior ginger has hyperthyroidism that is controlled well with methimazole. My vet recently increased her dose since her levels were slightly elevated and we opted for the 7.5 mg compounded pill twice a day (I work outside the home and a three per day lower dose wasn’t an option with my schedule). Previously my gal was on a hard pill at 5mg dose which I manually administered orally. This was always hard for both me and my cat since she didn’t want to take it and I felt awful always shoving a pill down her throat. The compounded pill is so much better since I can open the capsule and mix it in with churu so she feels like she’s getting a treat. It’s become such a positive experience that she seeks me out if I’m “late” giving her the churu + meds and circles my feet until she has her treat. The capsules are quite small so they can be sometimes challenging to open, but it’s much better for me and my Peach

proper dosage

Able to get exact dosage needed, however capsule has to be cut open if cat won't take capsule. (My cat won't)

It's a success with my pill hater.

I simply use my fingernails to twist and pull apart the capsule and mix it with a little Churu. She happily laps it all up!

Glad I was able to get this

I've had trouble finding the 1.25 mg dose, which my cat is supposed to get alternating with the 2.5 mg dose. Maybe it was available previously, but I didn't find it because it's kind of hidden under the 7 mg dose. Anyway, the 2.5 mg pills are small and smooth, so trying to halve them is ridiculous. This dose is a lot more expensive, but at least I know my boy will be getting the correct dosage.

I was pretty excited to get the 1.25 mg of methimazole due to mg accuracy of dosing. When cutting a pill in 4 it's quite difficult to have exact dosage. Attempting to get this pill down the cats throat is a bit of a challenge and unfortunately didn't work as well as planned. So moving forward I have taken my cat off the methimazole and transition him to thyroid cat food.

The price was nice, and I was looking forward to not having to split pills in half from he vet. Unfortunately, these capsules are way too big for a cat. I tried to pop open the capsule and mix it into some wet treat or food, but a) they're hard to open, it's messy, and Iend up contaminating the countertops, and b) that little girl is picky.

I ordered through Chewy because it was more affordable. At first I thought about returning them because they were capsules and not pills. So I thought my cat wouldn't be able to eat them. Well, I underestimated her, and she takes it with her treats without a problem.
