How much does the Large crate weigh?

What is the difference between the I crate and life stage crate by MidWest.
Answer by ChewyJan 18, 2018
Some iCrate Models (1518 - 1536) are narrower and lower than the Life Stages crates. The Wire Grid is closer together on the iCrate Models, while the Life Stages crate's Bars are closer together. If you're looking for a  lighter product, then the iCrate models are for you. If you prefer a stronger product and don't mind the extra weight, the Life Stages models are for you.

Is it ok to have a larger pet crate to keep a small dog in so they have extra room play or is that a bad idea
Answer by ChewyMar 03, 2021
MidWest has some guidelines based on dog weight, and also breed recommendations. Many times people opt to go one size bigger than is recommended. In general there is nothing wrong moving up a size or two. However, you do not want a crate too big because, as the crates get bigger, the wire mesh spacing often gets wider. You may find that putting a small dog, say 10 pounds, in a crate made for a 41-70 pound dog creates a safety hazard because your dog can get portions of his body, or even head through the gap.

I plan on using the divider initially. Do I buy a full size pad? This will fit under the divider?
Answer by ChewySep 05, 2017
We'd recommend getting the pad to fit the space you're going to use now, the bed won't fit under the panel.

Well-made and tall.

My dog is a standard poodle and I leave him in the crate when I go out. He weighs in at about 43 pounds, but he is tall, and this dog crate fits the bill. The crate is heavy (which is good), but I needed the largest size, so I also needed a neighbor to help me move it and set it up. I bought a soft crate pad and would definitely recommend it for comfort.

Great Crate

This crate is heavy duty, solid and will secure whatever dog you have. I prefer having two doors (like this one has). It was easy to assemble - hardest thing was carrying it through narrow doorways.

Very surprised

This cage is replacing an older cage that I thought would be better quality, I was very surprised when I opened the new cage and found that it was even better than the cage it was replacing. Also the second door allows me the choice of were to set the cage up, original only has one door. Cost of new cage was less than the one it is replacing

Great Except...

The crate itself is easy to assemble and breakdown and the life stages divider is perfect for our growing puppy! The biggest downside for us is that one of the clips that holds the pieces together when it's collapsed was forced through the middle of the plastic piece on the bottom for packaging/shipping. This has left us with sharp plastic pieces that stick up and can poke and potentially cut our dog. We've put it on the other side of the divider for now, but are most likely going to have to buy a new plastic piece because of their packaging issue.

Potty Training Saviors

I love these crates! I started off with a doggy playpen which definitely didn’t work as my dogs were pushing in the sides to get in and out regularly. I got two of these crates so that my youngest puppy wouldn’t think she was getting punished. I put the youngest puppy in after about a half hour of playtime and then will take him outside. I put them both in the crates when I leave and generally give them a chew so they don’t see it as a punishment. These crates are giving me my sanity back!

Sturdy cage for large Akita

I was pleasantly surprised how solid and sturdy this crate is. Midwest’s website mentions this is a more solidly build crate with thicker wire and denser spacing than the lighter “icrate” option. Shipping was quick and it arrived in perfect condition. It assembled easily within minutes, and the plastic pan is easy to keep clean. Having two doors is wonderful, and absolutely worth the small additional price over the one door crate. The additional door makes the crate easier to clean, and the side door stays where you put it when opened.

Broken tray

Crate is good quality but the plastic tray which serves as the floor of the crate over the wire bottom arrived cracked all of the way through in several places. It’s thin and poor quality.

Great Crate!

I haven’t purchased a dog crate in years. They have come a long way. This crate was so easy to assemble. It’s super solid and not at all flimsy. I love that it has two doors - such a simple yet genius concept. My only wish is that you could decide which way the doors swing open. I bought the 36” for my 12 pound dog. Bigger than he needs but I wanted to have ample space for him to have a posh bed in it :)

MidWest Lifestages 24" Crate

I purchased this small crate to keep in our bedroom when we brought our new puppy home. It is perfect for our Standard Poodle puppy at nine weeks old. He had the divider ¾ back for the first week now uses the whole area. Not one accident in the crate. Easy to move around and since he is right next to us, we can react to him quickly during the night. Even though he will probably outgrow in 3-4 weeks this was the perfect size to start crate training. Dollars well spent.
