Is the bag 100% freeze dried or just some pieces?

Answer by MeganDec 24, 2025
The whole bag.

I see this is made in the USA. Is it packaged here as well.

Answer by ChewyOct 25, 2021
This food is made in small batches in the USA with regionally sourced ingredients & humanely raised meat.

Ingredient list just says vitamins and minerals, it doesn't say what they are or how they are made. Chelated? Synthetic? Naturally occurring?

Answer by ChewyNov 16, 2021
Simply Raw is formulated to provide macro and micronutrients like vitamins and minerals from whole food sources. All of Nature's Diet formulas are third party lab tested to make sure dogs are getting the nutrients they need to thrive. The manufacturer supplements Simply Raw with a vitamin blend containing Selenium Yeast and Vitamin B6. Other nutrients are provided through their whole food ingredients.

Are the animal protein sources ethical, humane and sustainable?

Answer by ChewyMar 24, 2022
Animal protein used in Simply Raw is certified humanely raised and comes from local farmers near their freeze-drying facilities in Utah and Oregon. Their local sourcing practices and sustainable freeze-drying process helps eliminate food waste and cut down on transportation emissions.

Figured out the BEST prep strategy for picky eater!

My current competitive teammate has been a fussy eater since he was a pup. One day he loves a food, and the next day he turns his nose up at the same food as if it has somehow become gravel. I've used the chicken, beef, and turkey formulations in the past, but I finally figured out the secret to banish the "what is this stuff?" expression and change it to a "put that down immediately because it's delicious!" My dog had oral surgery to remove chewing teeth he somehow broke off, exposing toothy roots. The vet said he was supposed to get only soft, canned food for a month. I though about the "soft" description and made up a regular 1 meal serving with boiled water from the teakettle, mixed it up, then covered it and put it into the fridge for the next mealtime. To my surprise, when I uncovered the bowl, it was FULL of the rehydrated meat and veggie chunks, all suspended in collagen gravy from the rehydrated bone broth. I just stirred everything to break up the collage, and he enthusiastically licked up EVERYTHING. Wow! Please note, when you open up the bag, the heavier powdered collagen and dry bone broth will congregate at the bottom of the bag, leaving the lighter chunks on top -- just get a big kitchen spoon and stir the contents inside the bag to redistribute everything. I will regularly add handfuls of freee dried raw meats just to change things a little, and so far this has been one of the best accepted raw foods in Loki's meal rotation. Plus, it is soft, which helped him not rip out his stitches while healing from dental surgery.

The bag is full of dust, recognizable items are few.

I actually don’t know what to do about this, the bag consisted mostly of powder. You’re supposed to add water and reconstituted and then you have reconstituted mush

I wanted to supplement their kibble with raw food but found this product difficult to assess proper proportions and it required making it up in advance and storing it briefly in the fridge. Moved to a freeze dried raw product we add into their kibble. It's much easier and cleaner.

Our dogs LOVE LOVE LOVE this food! Fir that reason I would have given it 5 stars. However, the picture of the bag says makes 48 cups of food when hydrated. This is not true. We got 2 bags to start. The bags averaged just over half this when hydrated. I cannot abide false advertising. There are laws against it. We had hoped to make this our dogs nation food but because of what it actually makes we have to continue half this half regular kibble.

Not for my dog!

I bought this thinking it would be the best way to give my dog all her vitamins and nutrients without buying kibble. She absolutely hated it. Wish I could return

In September 2024, my dog Nylah was put on a raw food diet. Fixing it at home is quite involved, and I couldn't fix the food for the times I have to board her. I found this freeze dried raw food at Chewy for a reasonable price and decided to try it. I gave it to her a couple of days before she was boarded just to make sure she would eat it. She loved it! I still make her food when we are at home, but I use this for boarding and 1 to 2 days after we get back home, until I can get my act together and fix more of her fresh raw food. Nylah continues to love the Nature's Diet freeze dried food, so I feel good about using it when she is boarded.
