This is a great crate for calm dogs. My dog, however, is a crazy, lively dog that wants to bark and attack dogs we pass in the car. She literally claws the doors, which is why I bought the crate. We lost one screw and one of the latches broke the first week. Thankfully, the company provided an extra screw which is still in place and I put a king-size pillow between the crate door and the car door. So, it works!
So our 25lb Whoodle was able to bite through the bars and the wood piece they are attached to and get out. I really, really liked this crate because of the aesthetics and how well it was built; but, our dog got out despite NOT being an aggressive chewer (never chewed on anything but his toys and bones). He's never been an aggressive dog to have been concerned about him breaking out while we were gone. I was wrong. He was able to get his snout through the bars to bite them and gain enough leverage to bite, chew and pull on, weakening the wood enough for it to splinter apart. *We purchased this on January 17, 2021. He's had until today to work on breaking the integrity of the crate. It's a good purchase if you know your dog will not try to break out; because, it's not hard for them to do. Just time and a will to do it.
I have this for my pomchi, she can escape, I mean the latch comes undone every time I tighten it, she only shakes the door for 10 seconds & BAM opens! It’s just a hook that slides down, so I mean, it’s not for a dog who tries to get out. I got it because it’s appealing, & also my dog isn’t as exposed in this one, but it doesn’t hold her at all. Holds my pitbull just fine, tho he’s old & doesn’t try to escape.
First of all, to be clear, my GSD is crate trained. The door ended up falling off as the screws (which are plastic) did not stay in with regular use. I bought in August and had to replace in November with a reliable metal crate. I wanted so much for this to work but it fell apart in just a couple of months. Total waste of money.
I personally think the aesthetic of the kennel is great, however, I have two German shepherds and two golden retrievers. My golden retrievers, I can typically trust out of the kennel when I am away, but my Germans, the male in particular, likes to get into trouble when I leave, so a durable kennel is a must. I actually researched most durable kennels when I found this one ranking at number six, so I of course bought two. Not only are the latched super easy for my dogs to somehow unlatch from inside, but the material is like a wood like plastic that my dogs were able to eat and scratch up from the inside. Personally, it is a one star for me due to my German shepherd, but for my golden, had the Germans but destroyed it, this would be a three star kennel. For the price, I wish it was real or nicer wood and metal.
This crate is the best design and overall product I've seen for this furniture/crate combo. It is much bigger than I expected. So tall! With the idea of an end table, it becomes perfect height for blending in with bedroom or living room. For my 5lb chichi, it is like an fancy hotel with tall ceilings. Very easy to put together. Minimalist steel bars and smooth black exterior. Simple yet Sophisticated.
It's fine for a small crate-trained dog. But, it's held together by (I think) 8 plastic screws. I needed to move it once I put it together and was worried it would just fall apart if I lifted it. The bottom is a flimsy board. Also, the door isn't like the one pictured here. The bars go all the way down to the bottom - I wish they didn't. My dog would be happier with a little more enclosure.
We like this kennel design and Willow enjoys being in it more than the cage style kennel we got from her previous home. While kennel time is very limited around here when it needs to be used she seems less stressed by this style and we can work it into our home decor more easily
If you are crate training your dog or puppy, this is not the kennel for you. This is a decorative piece for a well trained dog. We have 2 that we use in the bedroom as endtables and spaces for the dogs to sleep. They aren't terribly sturdy against a rowdy dog but work for calm, trained dogs. The doors swing inwards as well which is nice since we don't lock the dogs in, it keeps the door out of the way.
I needed an end table and noodle is afraid of noises so this has been great. Went today easy and I left the door open so he knows not to lay by the recliner. He went in and now lays there content as long as I'm close. Makes me feel good for him. I put his little donut bed in and its so nice.
