Description

NexGard Chews for Dogs, 60.1-121 lbs. are vet-recommended and FDA-approved to kill adult fleas fast before they have a chance to lay eggs. This product is also FDA-approved to help prevent Lyme infections as a direct result of killing black-legged ticks. Each fast-acting chew provides safe and effective protection, killing fleas and ticks for a full month. And the chews are easy to give because dogs love the delicious beef flavor—you may even give them to your dog with or without food! Each NexGard bite-sized monthly dose is gentle enough to give to puppies and dogs as young as 8 weeks, weighing as little as 4 pounds.

Proudly sourced directly from the manufacturer or their approved distributor. Guaranteed genuine and backed by the manufacturer.

Uses

NexGard (afoxolaner) contains afoxolaner which is absorbed into the bloodstream after ingestion. When fleas and ticks ingest blood containing afoxolaner, it causes hyperexcitation and death in these parasites. Dogs and puppies 8 weeks of age and older weighing 4 pounds of body weight or greater. Do not use on cats.

Possible Side Effects

Afoxolaner is a member of the isoxazoline class. This class has been associated with neurologic adverse reactions including tremors, ataxia, and seizures. Seizures have been reported in dogs receiving isoxazoline class drugs, even in dogs without a history of seizures. Use with caution in dogs with a history of seizures or neurologic disorders. The safe use of NexGard (afoxolaner) in breeding, pregnant or lactating dogs has not been evaluated.

Drug & Food Interactions

In a well-controlled field study, NexGard was used concomitantly with other medications, such as vaccines, anthelmintics, antibiotics (including topicals), steroids, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), anesthetics, and antihistamines. No adverse reactions were observed from the concomitant use of NexGard with other medications. For specific questions about your dog, we recommend that you consult with your veterinarian.

Precautions

NexGard (afoxolaner) is for use in dogs only. The most frequently reported adverse reactions include vomiting, itching, lethargy, diarrhea, and lack of appetite. The safe use of NexGard in pregnant, breeding, or lactating dogs has not been evaluated. Use with caution in dogs with a history of seizures or neurologic disorders. For more information, contact your veterinarian or refer to the full prescribing information.

Instructions
Recommended Dosage

NexGard (afoxolaner) is given orally once a month, at the minimum dosage of 1.14 mg/lb (2.5 mg/kg). NexGard can be administered with or without food. Care should be taken that the dog consumes the complete dose, and treated animals should be observed for a few minutes to ensure that part of the dose is not lost or refused. If it is suspected that any of the dose has been lost or if vomiting occurs within two hours of administration, redose with another full dose. If a dose is missed, administer NexGard and resume a monthly dosing schedule. Flea Treatment and Prevention: Treatment with NexGard may begin at any time of the year. In areas where fleas are common year-round, monthly treatment with NexGard should continue the entire year without interruption. To minimize the likelihood of flea reinfestation, it is important to treat all animals within a household with an approved flea control product. Tick Treatment and Control: Treatment with NexGard may begin at any time of the year.

FAQ

How do NexGard® (afoxolaner) Chewables Work?

NexGard® (afoxolaner) Chewables contain afoxolaner which is rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream after administration. When fleas and ticks ingest blood containing afoxolaner, it causes hyperexcitation and death in these parasites.

What does NexGard® kill?

NexGard® chews have been carefully designed to quickly kill fleas and ticks for a full month, killing fleas before they have a chance to lay eggs and black-legged ticks before they transmit Lyme infections.

How fast does NexGard® kill fleas?

In a well-controlled laboratory study, NexGard® began to kill fleas four hours after initial administration and demonstrated >99% effectiveness at eight hours.

Why am I still seeing fleas on my dog after using NexGard®?

Adult fleas – the ones that you see on an infested pet – make up only ~5% of the total flea population. The developing stages (flea eggs, larvae and pupae) make up the other 95%. These developing stages can be found anywhere an infested animal spends time. Commonly infested animals, which spread flea eggs throughout their surroundings, include untreated pets, feral cats, opossums, coyotes, etc.

You are likely seeing NEW fleas on your pet, which are jumping on your dog as it moves through infested areas. These fleas will be killed quickly by NexGard® before they can reproduce. Depending on the severity of an already existing infestation, you may continue to see new fleas jumping on your pet for three months or more (depending on environmental conditions). To prevent new infestations, continue to give NexGard® MONTHLY throughout the year.

Is there a weight or age requirement to give my dog NexGard®?

NexGard® is safe for dogs and puppies as young as 8 weeks, weighing 4 pounds or more.

How long does a dose of NexGard® last & how often should I treat my dog?

Each NexGard® Chew protects your dog for one full month. It is important to ensure that your dog receives one NexGard® Chew each month to keep your dog protected all year long.

Can I start treating my dog with NexGard® at any time during the year?

Treatment with NexGard® may begin at any time of the year.

Does NexGard® need to be used even if I have an “Indoor dog"?

Yes—fleas are opportunists. Even if your dog only goes outside to do their business, they’re at risk of infestations from fleas and ticks. Fleas can even “hitchhike" into a home on people, and then jump to infest dogs. An infested pet will spread flea eggs throughout the house, which can survive in your carpet or the crannies of your wood floors and then mature to infest other animals in your home.

Is NexGard® safe?

NexGard® is both effective and safe. NexGard® has been evaluated extensively in both laboratory clinical studies, as well as in field trials in pet dogs. It is the #1 vet-recommended flea and tick protection for dogs, with over 270 million doses prescribed in the US.

How do I give NexGard® to my dog and what do I do if they spit it up?

NexGard® can be administered with or without food. Care should be taken that the dog consumes the complete dose, and treated animals should be observed for a few minutes to ensure that part of the dose is not lost or refused. If it is suspected that any of the dose has been lost or if vomiting occurs within two hours of administration, re-dose with another full dose. If a dose is missed, administer NexGard® and resume a monthly dosing schedule.

What sizes and options is NexGard® available in?

NexGard® is available in packs containing either one, three or six beef-flavored chewables and comes in 4 different sizes for (Small 4-10 pounds), (Medium 10.1-24 pounds), (Large 24.1-60 pounds) and (Extra Large 60.1-121 Pounds) dogs.

Can NexGard® be used on cats or other animals?

No, NexGard® should only be used on dogs. Do not give NexGard® to cats or other animals.

Can NexGard® be used in breeding, pregnant or lactating dogs?

The safe use of NexGard® in breeding, pregnant or lactating dogs has not been evaluated.

Can NexGard® be used with other medications?

In a well-controlled field study, NexGard® was used concomitantly with other medications, such as vaccines, anthelmintics, antibiotics (including topicals), steroids, NSAIDS, anesthetics, and antihistamines. No adverse reactions were observed from the concomitant use of NexGard® with other medications.
