Is this same as Oratene Antiseptic gel?
Answer by Chewy • Apr 30, 2018
The Dental gels are not the same, the Enzymatic is for regular care while the Antiseptic helps clear up severe cases of bad breath due to mouth infections.

Do you apply a 1/2 inch strip to both sides of the mouth or a 1/2 inch total for both sides?
Answer by Chewy • Nov 15, 2017
You would need to add 1/2" Inch strip to the lower gums and 1/2" Inch to the upper gums daily.

Do I need to withhold water and food for 30 minutes before and after using this gel on my dog?
Answer by Chewy • Oct 20, 2018
This dental gel is instructed to be applied once or twice daily, preferably after meals for maximum benefit. It is not necessary to withhold water.

What exactly is dry mouth? Can I use it for daily clean if my cat's mouth is healthy?
Answer by Chewy • Jul 25, 2018
Dry mouth, or Xerostomia, is when the gums and mucous membranes of the mouth are dry and the teeth usually have heavy film of plaque. Typically, older cats with kidney failure are more at risk for this disease. This dental gel provides maximum enzyme contact to inhibit harmful odor-causing bacteria and remove plaque biofilm. It'll help with reliving, smoothing and protecting mouth tissue's against dryness.

How to get over gingivitis

My cat, Tawnie, was destined to have a massive tooth pulling regime instituted by the vet when I first took him (he was abandoned and left to find food in a dangerous forest next to us.) We just looked on the internet and found out through our research about Oratene, the gel and the ointment which both Chewy sells. We applied it to his gums until the red went away! It takes a while but being consistent and often applications work. We also use Maxi-Guard which is sold by the manufacturer. These two products saved Tawnie's teeth and us lots of money in surgery bills. Tawnie, the wild cat, now loves to have his teeth brushed (and get Greenie Dental Treats, also sold by Chewy!) Chewy helped us so much to bring Tawnie Cat back from the illnesses he contracted from being in the forest. Chewy was always there to talk to us and offer advice which helped save Tawnie's life, we all love Chewy!(Tawnie Cat included!)

Holistic Vet Recommended

This kills the bad bacteria in dogs mouth which can cause tooth loss. Recommended by holistic vet after my dog got bad bacterial infection in upper jaw and ended up losing all her top teeth. Been using for several years and will use daily for the rest of her life.

Healthy teeth at 13 years old

My box, Max who was a senior rescue came to us with tarter on his teeth, and I started using Oratene gel with my fingers and he was giving me a hard time at first. Once he got comfortable I started the finger brush and finally use toothbrush. I decided to try a leading toothpaste, chicken flavor and he started vomiting every morning. Back to Oratene and he is a happy boy and no throwing up.

Not convinced

I am not convinced that this product can replace an actual brushing with pet toothpaste. Haven't noticed any improvement

Penny loves this stuff!

This product seems to work well. My dog came from a serious neglect situation and her teeth and gums were in poor shape. This product is applied to the gums - I just use my finger and Penny wags her tail when she sees I have it. Definitely makes the job easier. While it can't reverse the damage to her teeth, her breath is better, her gums look healthier and she has quit having that crusty gunk on her lips. I would definitely recommend this.

Not to Dog’s Liking

While my sheltie tolerates her teeth being brushed, she definitely disliked the flavor and/or feel of this toothpaste compared to her usual brand.

Seems to be working as promised.

Tarter has already formed on his front canines however after regular use of this gel my dog's breath is considerably less offensive. In fact, hardly noticeable. There are numerous ways to apply but as per a tip from an online "dog forum", I have been thoroughly mixing about 3/4 of an inch into chopped carrots (with my fingers) which is his last "course" per meal. I am assuming the product gets well into the gum-line that way since he will not let a toothbrush into his mouth, this is the best I can do.
