Good morning I'm currently fostering a small English bulldog who goats for food which of the bowls are available from chewy.com is the best for this particular breed any suggestions would be appreciated I need to order something today thanks looking forward to hearing back from you
Answer by ChewyOct 09, 2017
We'd recommend this bowl in the Mini Orange size, it has a little bit bigger gaps than the Regular Orange size for the type of nose the English bulldog has.

Does this bowl fit into an elevated stand?
Answer by ChewyJul 28, 2017
The Regular bowl is 12.75 inches x 11 inches x 2.6 inches. The Mini is 9.5 inches x 8 inches x 2.5 inches.

I see from the explanation the purple is easiest, teal is medium and orange is the hardest, can you tell me why there are difficulty levels? Trying to decide what is best for my 7 month old lovable but lightening fast border collie! Thanks!
Answer by ChewyJul 05, 2019
The different difficulties of these bowls help slow down quick eaters, while also allowing dogs that like to figure out puzzles a chance to "play with their food" at a level that challenges them.

Can this bowl be used for cats to slow their eating time?
Answer by ChewySep 07, 2018
This feeder could be used for cats as well. They may not be able to fit their mouth in however, they could use their paws to grab food out.

Terrible design

I own each of the three Outward Hound bowls (purple, orange, blue). They all have the same fatal flaw. The bottom is not solid and is made of the same hard plastic so it slides around on the floor as the dog tries to lick the contents out. The manufacturer claims that the bowls are top rack dishwasher safe but good luck with that. The open bottoms mean no matter how you place this bowl, it's going to end up as a swimming pool of nasty water in your dishwasher. Worse, even working around all these deficiencies, they don't slow down my dog's feeding sufficiently but instead just makes him a super aggressive eater..

AMAZING for dog's with digestion issues

The ER vet told us that Penny was inhaling her food too quickly and that's what was causing all her stomach problems. She was abused and starved as a baby so she inhales any food we give her and it's caused problems for her. We tried a few other bowls before settling on this one. When we press her food in, it really takes her about 10-15 minutes to eat instead of 45 seconds. It has helped with her gas, hiccups, food overwhelm, stomach irritation and acid reflux. Definitely get it!

works for us

It is a bit deep for my girl, but it really works better than others. Maybe because it is deep. Would have liked to find the smaller version, as she only gets a half cup of food at a time. But on the high side, she leaves some food in the bowl now.

One dog said yes, one dog said no

Both my dogs will eat anything and everything but this bowl put one of my dogs on strike and took me forever to coax him back into eating regularly. Had to use his old bowl, back to looking for another slow feeder

Dish is too deep

This dish is too deep for my small puppy. Over all it’s a nice dish, but I definitely would only recommend it for bigger/medium sized dogs. Hopefully I can find someone else who would be able to use it.

Great bowl

We rescued our girl when she was 8wks and had a senior dachshund at the time. As she grew and they ate at the same time they both raced to see who could finish first and check out each other's bowls (they were receiving different food). This is the second Outward Hound feeder we've had for her (the other larger purple one we had for about a year and wanted to downsize) and they do work to slow eating. Our senior dachshund passed about 6 months ago so she no longer has competition and even stops to check something out in-between bites so we're looking at trying a regular food bowl but will definitely keep this. As for cleaning we hand wash until we run the dishwasher and put it on the top rack, we've had no issues.

Great to make him slow down eating

We recently adopted a rescue who was extremely unweight. He had to compete for food and ate as fast as possible. The bowl has slowed him down to a healthy speed.

Very small

My 50# dog can eat from this dish but just barely. I don't agree that this is large enough for a medium size dog. Otherwise, very sturdy with a non-skid bottom edge that will work nicely for a small dog. Like the larger size for my medium-size dog.

Outsmarted!

Bought this for my German Shepard, who is a big boy at 112 lbs. He ate from it for a total of about 90 seconds, and then he used his paw to flip it over and proceed to eat it all off the floor. He looked at me after with his huge German Shepard grin, as if to say, "Nice try, Mom." I do not recommend for large or very smart dogs. Or both.

works well

My big girl seems to do well with this. I think it has helped slow down her stress eating (we have a baby she doesn’t like) compared to the other slow feeder we had.
