It's great, until it's not. Lasted 3 months.
I was a big fan of this fountain when it first arrived -- it was quiet, and the ceramic felt cleaner and better for my cats. The one day, a huge puddle of water started leaking out from underneath, despite no one having touched or bumped it in anyway. The ceramic spout protruding from the base, which houses the power cord and connects to the fountain motor itself, had cracked on its own! You can see from the photo that the crack is in the center of bowl, where it's usually covered with that big ball thing -- so it's not plausible that my cats somehow knocked it around and caused this kind of crack. Anyway, I contacted PetSafe support and they were kind enough to offer a replacement. But after I sent them my shipping info, I never heard back or received a replacement in the mail. Super disappointing, because for a while there, I did like this one a lot more than my plastic Catit fountain.

Quiet fountain delights cat
Moon loves drinking water that flows over the ceramic dome and where it emerges from the pump. Changing filter every 2 weeks seems like a lot, BUT the result is clean water which is essential. My partner is also very happy about how quiet the fountain is.

Cute, but some issues
This is my third PetSafe Drinkwell fountain and I like it a lot...my cats are somewhat skeptical, however. The first one we had was terrific! Ceramic and super quiet, large bowl, easy to clean, BUT the pump was glued in and when it failed, the fountain was done. The second one was the stainless steel one. The constant noise drove me crazy and stainless stains, although the cats liked it. Now, this one Pros: VERY quiet and good looking. Cons: Small bowl area and a little more fussy to clean. If your pets like to drink from the "trickle-down" part they will ike this. Bowl drinkers might not. The silicone cap for the stem is ridiculous and there is no way it will stay in place. I just cap it off with wrapped foil or plastic wrap. But that's a problem the manufacturers need to solve. Recommend, but with these caveats.
cats love it & it's quiet
This is a nice and quiet design and my cats find it very appealing. The maintenance/cleaning is very easy too. The kitties have been drinking it so much and it is heart warming to watch them.
Gets dirty within 2-3 days and smells bad
I cannot keep this fountain clean no matter what I try. The instructions say to rinse the filter before first use and I did, and saw a bunch of black charcoal dust come out. I rinsed until the water ran clear, then set up the fountain. Within 2 days, the water was cloudy and smelly and there was black charcoal dust all over the bottom. I dumped the water and cleaned it, rinsed the filter again for a few minutes, and refilled the fountain. Same thing happened within a couple of days. It does not stay clean for more than 2-3 days and my cat won't use it. I keep a regular bowl of water next to the fountain for him to make sure he has water until he decides to try the fountain, and the bowl stays cleaner than this fountain. I already disposed of the box so I can't return it, which is a shame because I feel like I wasted my money with this fountain.

Lots of build up
This fountain looks great and is very quiet, but it gets gross very quickly. I tried with and without the charcoal filter as some of the reviews mentioned, but either way there was always a lot of build up around the filter. The water gets cloudy very fast, and so you have to change it often enough that you end up wasting a huge amount of water (at least I did since my one cat can only drink so much water so fast).
Worth the wait!
The fountain is beautiful, but my cat didn't want to touch it, at least at first. I decided to keep it by my bed as a humidifier in the dry winter months. After at least a month, kitty decided it was really nice, and now she drinks from it a lot.
ok, but has flaws
We bought ours 13 months ago (in Dec 2021) and yesterday the motor stopped working. Expected it to last a lot longer than one year. Also, build up inside happens quickly and more frequently that you might expect. So I’d look to change the filters a bit more often then the instructions provided say.
Super quiet, all the cats love it!
One of my cats is a little too curious and likes to tip over normal water bowls/fountains, so we were looking for a heavier one that he can’t spill. We found this one, and all three of our kitties absolutely love it! It’s super quiet and great design - the cats love to drink from both the top where the water comes out as well as the bowl. And the bowl is nice and heavy so none of them can tip it over. The only complaint I have with it is it is a bit of a pain to clean and the filters aren’t the greatest. Still love the fountain though and will probably get a second at some point.
Grit and scum
I read other reviews where the charcoal filter makes the water slimy. So I didn’t use it. Cleaned everything with dishwashing liquid and water. The cat refused to drink from it. I changed the water every day.
Then I washed it again. There was grit covering every area inside of the fountain. The ceramic parts had to be scrubbed. After washing it, I decided I didn’t want that to happen again. So I tossed it. Didn’t want any other animal to use it. Didn’t even want to return it. Maybe it was the filter that goes around the pump?
So back to the pricey handmade pet fountain.
