This was a great cat waterer. It broke the same spot that many others have said. Sounds like a defect in the product. From what I could see that skinny cylinder is too thin and any slight bump would make it break if just right. Just don't know how you can repair ceramic after it breaks. After that it wouldn't hold water.
Only a couple weeks in and all the pets prefer this fountain rather than a traditional water bowl. There is enough surface area for them to get fresh water from any side and after about 1 weeks it does not seem to be too dirty as we have hard water. Although time will tell as we clean it once a week we will have to keep an eye on the filter based off previous reviews. It is very quiet but there is a slightly audible hum when in the same room if you focus on it.
This is the best cat fountain I have ever purchased, and I have tried them all! The price is worth it in my opinion, because it encourages my cats to drink more water. We have used this fountain for over 3 years now, but have replaced the motor twice. I do buy new filters from time to time as needed. I usually give mine a good cleaning about every 2 weeks with soap and water, using a toothbrush for the small parts. My cats all love it, with the quiet trickling water. I can tell when it needs cleaning because the cats avoid the fountain and just drink from their plain water bowl until I do!
After trialing countless fountains with my new cat in 2020, this was the clear winner! She immediately approached it while other fountains seemed to scare her with the way the water poured or moved. We had this for about 3 years and it still worked great! I accidentally broke the plastic part that holds the charcoal filter and decided to be safe and buy a replacement incase it was ever out of stock or discontinued in the future. My cat loves this fountain and must know this is a new one, she has been drinking more frequently. I highly recommend this fountain-It looks so nice, is quiet, easy to clean, and my cat loves to drink from it!
This was easy to put together after watching the short instructional video. It's a great size and style for every setting. And the cat loves it of course and it's super quiet, no sound at all.
I was a big fan of this fountain when it first arrived -- it was quiet, and the ceramic felt cleaner and better for my cats. The one day, a huge puddle of water started leaking out from underneath, despite no one having touched or bumped it in anyway. The ceramic spout protruding from the base, which houses the power cord and connects to the fountain motor itself, had cracked on its own! You can see from the photo that the crack is in the center of bowl, where it's usually covered with that big ball thing -- so it's not plausible that my cats somehow knocked it around and caused this kind of crack. Anyway, I contacted PetSafe support and they were kind enough to offer a replacement. But after I sent them my shipping info, I never heard back or received a replacement in the mail. Super disappointing, because for a while there, I did like this one a lot more than my plastic Catit fountain.
Moon loves drinking water that flows over the ceramic dome and where it emerges from the pump. Changing filter every 2 weeks seems like a lot, BUT the result is clean water which is essential. My partner is also very happy about how quiet the fountain is.
This is my third PetSafe Drinkwell fountain and I like it a lot...my cats are somewhat skeptical, however. The first one we had was terrific! Ceramic and super quiet, large bowl, easy to clean, BUT the pump was glued in and when it failed, the fountain was done. The second one was the stainless steel one. The constant noise drove me crazy and stainless stains, although the cats liked it. Now, this one Pros: VERY quiet and good looking. Cons: Small bowl area and a little more fussy to clean. If your pets like to drink from the "trickle-down" part they will ike this. Bowl drinkers might not. The silicone cap for the stem is ridiculous and there is no way it will stay in place. I just cap it off with wrapped foil or plastic wrap. But that's a problem the manufacturers need to solve. Recommend, but with these caveats.
This is a nice and quiet design and my cats find it very appealing. The maintenance/cleaning is very easy too. The kitties have been drinking it so much and it is heart warming to watch them.
I cannot keep this fountain clean no matter what I try. The instructions say to rinse the filter before first use and I did, and saw a bunch of black charcoal dust come out. I rinsed until the water ran clear, then set up the fountain. Within 2 days, the water was cloudy and smelly and there was black charcoal dust all over the bottom. I dumped the water and cleaned it, rinsed the filter again for a few minutes, and refilled the fountain. Same thing happened within a couple of days. It does not stay clean for more than 2-3 days and my cat won't use it. I keep a regular bowl of water next to the fountain for him to make sure he has water until he decides to try the fountain, and the bowl stays cleaner than this fountain. I already disposed of the box so I can't return it, which is a shame because I feel like I wasted my money with this fountain.
