Will this ramp work on concrete steps

Answer by ChewyAug 14, 2018
While this ramp can be used on stairs, there are limitations. The “pitch” of stairs is generally much steeper than ramps (think of wheelchair ramps outside of buildings), so placing the ramp over the top of stairs will make it too steep to use. If the staircase only consists of a few steps, then the ramp might work but the bottom of the ramp must be placed farther out than the bottom step. The average “height” of individual steps (known as the “rise”) is 7-8 inches. By referring to the “recommended height” figure for a given ramp, you can determine how many steps can be covered safely.

The XL ramp telescopes out from 47” to 87”. Is it only useable when extended to 47” or 87”? Or can it be used at any point within those dimensions?

To use the Pet Ramp, simply set the angled, upper end on the surface to which the pet is trying to climb then pull out the inner slide to the required length and set it on the ground.

The ramp is longer than most, though not by much. By telescoping, the length can be adjusted to different lengths. It is aluminum so it is fairly light. It has a handle on the side, which would be nice to use, but it’s so stiff that it’s actually hard to get the strap loosened enough to put my hand in to carry it. After reading some of the reviews on the website, I’m afraid to pull on it too much because several people have mentioned that the strap actually broke. The ramp itself can be made fairly short, which makes it easy to store. Probably the worst characteristic is the walking surface for the dog. The surface itself for my dog is slippery and also very rough. Her paws are fairly soft and I decided not to even mess with the rough finish on the ramp. I put two small throw rugs which work relatively well. A 6 foot runner would also work well if you could find one with a good gripping surface for the dog to walk on. My ramp was the regular length, not the extra large. Read the instructions: they mentioned to be sure to close the latch so the ramp doesn’t open when being moved from place to place, and the ramp is not meant for people to walk on. It is only for non-human animals.

Depends on your vehicle set-up and your dogs idiosyncrasies

I don't want to rate it lower because this ramp may be perfect for someone else, but it really will depend on your vehicle and your dog. I bought this to help one

I don't want to rate it lower because this ramp may be perfect for someone else, but it really will depend on your vehicle and your dog. I bought this to help one of our older, heavier dogs get in and out of our vehicle. I have a Chevy Trax for reference. The width of the ramp is too large to attempt to load a dog into the back seat. The ramp can slide onto the back seats to store but it will not fit in the rear of the vehicle to store. Prior to trying it on our dog with the vehicle, we had it stationary lying flat on the floor. He seemed leary each time, but okay with stepping on it. We then set it onto the tailgate of the Trax to test it out. I extended the ramp to where there wasn't a steep climb up. The ramp itself extends easily and the ramp has a nice non-slip cover. There is only about an inch or two side rail so any dog would need to be able to walk in a straight line. Our dog is a bit wobbly in the rear (arthritic) so this was a challenge. I thought I had it resting stable on the ledge of the vehicle but it did move somewhat when he put his front paw on the ramp. I'd be more comfortable knowing that someone was holding it stationary in place. Our dog wouldn't move any further after it gave a bit, and he laid down. I'd feel better if the ramp self locked instead of being weight dependant. I'm not sure if the slight movement came from it slipping on the ledge of the vehicle or if the ramp itself moved from extension. Since we had a veterinary appointment, we lifted him up into the vehicle which defeats the purpose. We plan to see if it will rest better on our van step. In the meantime, untill we need to use it again, we will practice with the van. So 4 stars for how it extends easily and for the non-slip mat on the ramp. I'd rate it less for the side rails being very short, non-existent and the need for better stability resting on the ledge of the vehicle when you have a dog that is old, arthritic and somewhat hesitant to load.

I read the other reviews and yes it gets scratched right away. It's a utilitarian piece of equipment ment for use by a large dog with claws. I threw down an old yoga mat tada better. This works fantastically for getting my 98lb senior German shepherd from the house to the sidewalk and from the ground into the hatchback of my car. The telescopic action works well. I do not leave it outside between uses. I could not as of yet how it will stand up long term but so far I love it and so does Barley!

We needed a long heavy duty ramp to load our 50lb doodle into a raised 4x4 truck and over a bolstered car seat. This was a perfect choice. It is easy to extend and retract and yet strong enough for our dog to run up when fully extended. It’s a bit on the steep side when extended to full length, but he handles it like a little goat. Great purchase!

This was big help for my dog. He is 10 years old and can no longer do jumps going in and out of a vehicle. It was tricky at first as he is nervous doing new things but quickly got the hang of it. Also like that its lightweight than expected and easily slips in the foot area of our rear seat.

I bought this for my 12 year-old yellow lab who has arthritis in both hips. We put this on the back of the Tahoe for her go up and down to enter the vehicle and she loves it ; no more jumping . Best money I’ve spent and it extends way out so it’s not a steep incline

This was a really good option for me. I’m disabled and only have the use of one hand so I needed something super lightweight. That was also goingto be stable for my senior Dalmatian. I can’t say either one of my dogs are crazy about the ramp, but it holds up for the 80 pound lab also. If you’re not very strong, I definitely recommend this ramp.
