It is always recommended to clean the gravel before placing in your tank. Use a large clean sieve (colander) and fill halfway with gravel. Pour water over the gravel in the sieve, while gently shaking it. Once the water runs clear, the gravel is ready to be used.

Would this gravel be good for cichlids

Depending on the size of your Cichlids, will determine if this gravel is suitable. Some Cichilid species would prefer sand, which will aid in digestion when ingested and the larger Cichlids are fine with gravel.
