What kind of whitefish does this food contain? I would like specific types of fish. Where are they sourced from? Are they tested for mercury levels?
Answer by • May 18, 2022
Whitefish is the meat from a variety of fish, like cod, trout, and pollock. It's a high-quality source of protein and amino acids that help build and maintain your pet's muscles.
Nearly all fish and shellfish contain traces of mercury. Because mercury is a naturally occurring substance in many fish, it is possible that trace amounts – measured in parts per billion – might be detected in any product with seafood. These unavoidable traces do not pose a risk to a pet’s health.
The FDA does have an advisory regarding human consumption of some predatory fish species having higher levels of methyl mercury; however, the fish Purina uses in their products are not listed in this category.
As part of their comprehensive food safety and ingredient surveillance programs, they do test for well over 150 substances — including mercury.
At Purina, all seafood vendors must go through an extensive Vendor Approval Process including on-site audits and repeated ingredient testing for mercury and other contaminants, with preference given to geographical areas and fish species known to have low mercury residues. Only those vendors that pass this review process are approved vendors of Purina.
how long after opening a can will product stay fresh?
Answer by • Jun 02, 2021
An unopened can of food will last until the expiration date stamped on the can. Exposure to air, light, hot temperatures and humidity speeds up the rate at which foods degrade. To limit these effects, keep the food stored in the original packaging and store in a cool, dry location. Ideally, after opening, any leftovers should be stored in the refrigerator and should be consumed within 3-5 days.
What is the phosphorus content of this food?
Answer by • Oct 09, 2023
This recipe has a phosphorus content of 0.33% as fed and 1.44% on a dry matter basis.
I thought I ordered the one from the variety pack. I got the wrong one and he is not a fan. It is probably a great food, but not for my spoiled old man

Moving from kitten to cat food
I'm starting to switch our kittens to grown-up food a little early (10 months) because one was starting to look a little fat. (They still have dry kitten food.) One was a little reluctant, but seems to be getting used to it. Both are doing well on Proplan, wet & dry.

YUMMY
My 2 Persian cats love their Purina wet food. They are always excited and ready to eat when I am fixing their food to eat!

So far so good
I am very excited to find a wet food that both my senior cats enjoy. I only feed it in small amounts, but lately some wet foods and kibbles caused them to throw up. My male cat had never had that problem, other than an occasional hairball now and then. I changed them both to Purina Pro Plan kibble and this wet food, and all throw ups have stopped. So grateful because it was becoming more and more frequent. My female cat has always been somewhat picky about her wet food, but the male cat would eat anything. Only in the past few months did these strange digestive issues start. I took them to the vet, and nothing seem to be wrong with them. I spend quite a lot on the best foods, and still had the problem. They have both been on only Purina Pro Plan for three weeks, and it’s been wonderful! Plus my female is actually enjoying her wet food!

No more struvite crystals
Pleased that my 5 year old boy Norwegian Forest no longer has struvite crystals in his bladder. In the past, he didn't care for pate or any seafood, but he loves this! I was surprised. The only reason I gave it a 3 is I'm not fond of the ingredients,
byproducts for one. Would like for Purina to do better with more wholesale ingredients. I'm looking to making my fur kids food from my own kitchen. Until then, this has helped.

They have changed the ingredients
I used to order this consistently for my PU male cat. However 3 orders ago I noticed a difference in smell and texture. My most recent delivery prompted me to post this. I could smell the rotten food through the box. I expect to open it to an exposed can with oxidation but nope! Every can sealed and it stinks so bad I put the whole case in the trash without cracking a single seal.

Good for urinary
Our cat gets crystals in her urine but hates the prescription food so this works perfect to keep her healthy but also happy.

Little Bud approves!
My cat, Little Bud, has been diagnosed with kidney issues and this is the only specialty food she will eat. Don't know what we would have done if this was not an option.
